Many humans are not built to empathize, sympathize, or show compassion as much as we are built to hold on to our own beliefs and surround ourselves with familiarity. It's amazing that on this planet, we can all share the land yet live such different lives.
Volunteering is a wonderful way to learn about other people's walks of life through immersion. Whether it's a program at a local shelter or a rebuild project on the other side of the world-- there are organizations who could always use your help.
Imagine if everyone took some time to volunteer with people completely unlike themselves - it wouldn't just result in personal growth; perhaps it may actually result the evolution of humans as a race.
