Advent Begins
I'm well on my way to getting ready for Christmas:
- most of the cookies are baked & in the freezer; should be done this weekend
- the tree is up & the house is decorated. Thanks to DH, he ran out & got more lights for the tree, because my old ones were dying!
- about half my cards are written. I'm trying to squeeze them in when I can. I hope to get them done soon, because the PO is getting slower & slower
- tonight I'll be going to NYC for the annual party thrown by a vendor of ours. The other gals in the office aren't going, but I'll be darned if I don't! It's always so pretty down there, the food is great & the party is really first-class (better than our company party, which is no more than a glorified frat party--done with that!)
- this past Saturday, I went to a Women's Christmas Breakfast at my friend's church. It's always so very beautiful with the decorations & there was plenty of food, unlike last year when they were running out!
- reading an Advent devotional in the morning that I downloaded free to my Kindle app on my iPhone. It's actually pretty good--not "just" the Christmas story, but also the prophecy & fulfillment of Christ's coming--which is what Advent is about, right?
- I'll be mailing in the money for the Christmas concert tickets today. That concert is always THE most Christmas-y thing to do in town!
The only thing is that my kids are not letting on what they want for Christmas! DD keeps saying she'll give me a list & DS keeps saying he doesn't know what he wants. (Really--I don't think I've EVER had a Christmas where I didn't have a wish list!) The flip side is I DO let people know what I want (I maintain a wish list on Amazon, to make it REALLY easy!) & most of the time, I get stuff I don't want at all. (Although there was one year where my MIL gave me a pie-carrying basket. I never would have thought to ask for one & it's come in really handy.)
So anyway...yesterday I was paying bills with my brand-new checks. Funny, I ALMOST forgot I had that option! But it was nice just to do things simply. And I started making a list of bills that can be paid online, for the future. (Don't worry, Lucy--I'm being VERY careful!) With the PO being as slow & pokey as it is, I think this may be a good idea.
