addiction
I just read that ancient Romans refered to slaves as addicts. the word persisted, and now if someone is a slave to something, they are an addict. I refuse to be a slave, whether to alcohol or "recovery", I prefer to say "reformed" as in, I am a reformed alcoholic. That's just me, though. I find that there is a slavery to recovery on this site that scares me. My desire is to get away from thios ailment, to live a life that is apart from alcoholism, and yes I do see the irony of writing this here. I'm not looking to be selfish or judgemental, cold hearted or egotistical, I feel that the worrying on continued delinquency into alcoholism is another type of enslavement and weakening of one's mental capacities into counter-productivity. How does one offer help and solace to the uninitiated by wallowing into a morass of timidity. I dunno. Check it, now the self-doubt over my own point of view comes in. Maybe, and I know this, there are no hard fast rules nor heroes, bold trail blazers, just the uncertain waters frought with peril of a life I've been too afraid to live from the get go. I wonder if my disdain for the attitudes I raill against are merely a disdain for my own. Help, what form does it take? How far to go for it? How needy is too needy? What does the dryer even want with the socks it steals? Pity is cruel, even when directed at oneself. Mebbe especialy so.
