Added stress in our LDR is causing him to withdrawl

I met a man online about 3 months ago. He's 34. I'm 32. We're approximately 6 hour apart via drive time. It's just enough that work and life cand (and does) get in the way with us scheduling visits together. He also has a several issues causing him stress, which I knew about from the very beginning, but we both went in with the intention of making it work. He has an child that he gets on the weekends. The mother left him very shortly after birth. He also has some finanal issues, a very demanding job, and his brothers wedding to worry about. That's definitely quite a bit of stress.

The first month I was able to see him for a couple of days every week. My job allows for a lot of flixibility and I don't mind being the one to make the effort. Naturally, we hit it off incredibly well. The 4-5 days in between getting to see each other just allowed everything to ramp up and make the next meeting even better. However, the second month work got in the way for both of us and his additional stressors have caused him to start withdrawing. When he started to withdraw I wasn't sure what to think in the beginning. I didn't think there was an issue with us, but when communication becomes halted, all one can really do is speculate. He's not much of one for talking on the phone, and getting him to video chat is pretty much out of the questions. But, since we were able to see each other pretty frequently, I've been ok with just texting. However, the last week his responses are incredibly limited, if at all.

I know it has 0 to do with me because he told me that. He sent me a text yesterday telling me that the mother of his child basically told him that she's met someone else and they are moving to the other side of the country at the end of the year AND on top of that the mother unexpectedly dropped said child into his custody with no notice and wants him to keep him for the remainder of the month (2.5 weeks). He works 6 days a week and only has the child on the weekends as a general rule. To do that to him unexpectedly with no notice puts him in quite a bit of a bind when considering child care. Naturally, I called him immediately after reading that text and we had a solid 10 minute discussion. I asked him if we needed to break it off so he could focus on that. He said no. He said we were good, but he just had a lot of things he needed to figure out.  Heavy, right?!?

Short of a military LDR, I've not been in one. With that one, I knew what to expect and how to react. That was easy for me because that lifestyle was pretty much scripted out for you. This is new territory for me. Even though I reassured him I'm not going anywhere and I would always be there if he needed me, things still feel strained. Texts and replys are still incredibly limited. I made the lighthearted comment to him on the phone that we just needed to have lots of sex. It made him laugh and relax for just a moment.

Originally, I was suppose to go visit him next week, but in light of having his child that may get postponed. We both have agreed that it's entirely too soon to introduce me to him. So, if I don't get to see him, it will be at least 3 weeks in between. That, coupled with his withdrawing tendencies has me jumpy. I have no idea what to do or say to support him in a manner that will be beneficial for him (first and foremost in my opinion) and us. Even my "good morning" texts are only replied with "morning" now. I've even sent him racy pictures and get NO response. Until now, those ALWAYS got a positive reaction. I know I can't solve his problems. I know he has to do this on his own. I do also know he is ALL MAN. He needs space when he gets stressed. I'm still trying to figure out how much space, but I think this situation is going to give me a pretty good idea. I also know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he's not cheating on me. That's not his personality type. And besides that, with all of his stress, his job, and his child, having a relationship with me takes up more time than what he truely has to give, let alone trying to have something else on the side.

I'm one of those women who will always be the last one to go down with the ship. When I commit, I commit 200%. If anything is worth doing, it's worth doing right, so I will patiently wait it out until this thing tips one way or the other. IS there anything else I can do to show him my support? Is there anything/any way I can get him to see and use me as a teammate?
