ACIM Forgiveness Process

ACIM's process of forgiveness requires great determination and discipline. But it is well worth the effort.

The first step in this process is to recognise the origin of your problem. This recognition, based on the metaphysical principle that all of the external world is merely a reflection of our beliefs and understandings, will help you with your forgiveness practice.
1. Recognize the Origin

Getting past our preconceived ideas about right, wrong and good, is a rite of passage. Besides, it is the best way to reclaim your rightful place in the universe and we all know that a loving, enlightened and self aware human being is a worthy prize in any given day. The aforementioned trinity of a healthy and happy you is the gold standard, which is why it's only fitting that we all share the lion's share of that prize. Having said that, the challenge is the fact that we have a few more egos than there are twins, which inevitably results in a lack of focus and the all important sleepy time. The good news is that we are able to move on from this chasm of unhappiness and move into the new era with our heads held high.
2. Decide to Forgive

Forgiveness is a process, which involves the conscious choice to release feelings of anger and resentment toward someone who has hurt you.

According to research, forgiving someone can have a variety of benefits for you. It can help you feel more peaceful, calm and happier, as well as improve your health.

The process of forgiving can be challenging, especially if you have been wronged by a loved one or by someone who has been important to you in your life. But it can also be a healing process for you and your relationships, according to researchers.

Once you decide to forgive, there are a few steps that you can take to make the process easier and more successful. Here are five things you can do to make forgiveness more likely.

Start by asking yourself questions about the situation you were in that led to your resentment and anger. Ask yourself whether you could have handled the situation differently if you had known that it was going to happen or if you should have taken a different approach in the first place, suggests researcher Loren Toussaint.

If you can’t find answers to these questions, seek professional help. A therapist or counselor can provide you with the tools and guidance to help you forgive. libro de ucdm

It’s better to try and forgive a person for what they have done than to hold onto the past, which only leads to more stress and negative emotions. But it’s also important to remember that it’s up to you to choose which parts of the past you want to keep and which ones you’re willing to let go, says psychologist David Swartz, author of The Forgiving Mind.

As you work through the process, be aware that it may take time to heal. But the results are worth it.

Forgiveness can be the most important step in healing your emotional pain and releasing your feelings of resentment. The resentment that you have towards others can lead to negative physiological symptoms, including anxiety, depression and even suicidal thoughts.

The more you let go of your resentment and hurt, the sooner you can move on to more positive feelings and more meaningful relationships. Forgiveness can also free you from the emotional and physical stress that resentment and anger can cause, according to researchers.
3. Release the Resentment

During the ACIM forgiveness process, it is essential to release any resentment you may have towards yourself or others. This is because any resentment you hold against yourself or others can be the reason for many problems that you are currently having, including emotional pain, negative moods and feelings of guilt.

The best way to do this is to ask the creative/Infinite Intelligence, the divine or Holy Spirit to help you with this task. To do this, simply close your eyes and focus on your breath. Breathe in a slow and steady rhythm, focusing on the rise and fall of your breath. Then, silently repeat the words “calm” on your in-breath and “relax” on your out-breath. Then, in your imagination, release the resentment that you have been holding onto and experience what it feels like to let go. You will probably be amazed at how much better you feel after this simple exercise! You are now ready to move on to the next step in the ACIM forgiveness process. Hopefully, the practice will become easier and you will see your resentment dissipate as the day progresses.
4. Let Go

In ACIM, the first step in forgiveness is to recognize that your problem, as well as everyone else’s, originates within yourself. In fact, all problems are merely symbols of your current beliefs and understandings. This is why you must take responsibility for your own problems before you can help other people or experience a positive effect from them.

The Course also teaches that you cannot change another person, even if you want to. You can only change your own thoughts and feelings, which in turn will affect your emotions and physical health. However, the Course also emphasizes that your thoughts and feelings will only change after you release your unforgiveness.

Many participants reported that their state of unforgiveness negatively effected their emotional wellbeing, such as an 'inability to think clearly' (Rana, Muslim) or 'feelings of bitterness' (Lyndon, Theosophist). Furthermore, they indicated that unforgiveness had a negative impact on their cognitive health. In particular, they mentioned a 'inability to sleep' and intense feelings of anger as well as mood disorder (Quinn, ACIM).

Despite the negative effects of unforgiveness on mental health, participants still reported that forgiveness was beneficial for them. They described feeling'stronger' (Amira, Muslim), 'independent' (Jax, Buddhist) or 'calmer' (Trisha, ACIM) after they forgave. Additionally, many felt that they were now able to control their feelings and were no longer affected by their past pain. Lastly, they also noted that their spirituality had improved. This was a result of letting go of their past pain and allowing the Holy Spirit to become the dominant force in their mind.
