Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a mindfulness-based approach used by Psychologists and Clinical Psychologists at Mind Body Well to help people develop psychological flexibility. Rather than struggling against and trying to change difficult thoughts and emotions, ACT encourages acceptance, while also focusing on values-driven actions. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy supports individuals in learning to live with challenging thoughts and feelings while committing to actions that align with their values. It can be helpful for people who are experiencing anxiety, low self-worth, and food and eating concerns by teaching skills to unhook from unhelpful thoughts and increase the focus on what brings deeper meaning and purpose to life. With techniques such as mindfulness, cognitive defusion and committed action, ACT fosters resilience and self-compassion.
