Absent minded
I am having a busy, weird, absentminded week!
First, we decided to go to Edmonton - we hadn't seen our son, DIL and brother-in-law for awhile. friend/colleague knew I was going so phoned at 6 am to ask if I could go to work in a retirement residence as all the staff had gone on strike. Since the facility is in Edmonton I said I would help out. So we got up and left at 7:30. When I got there it was chaos. I crossed a very noisy picket line - told the leader that I understood their cause but needed to go. He was not sympathetic! Needless to say I was at work until after 8 that evening. I went back on Friday and worked from 7:30 to 8 pm. I only got to see my family for about a half an hour each evening so declined work on Thursday. We had a nice visit in the morning,
I get frustrated with management and the union - there is such posturing! I support unions as without them they are at the mercy of the company. I know there are some good companies out there but my experience has shown that there are more bad than good. There are some good and bad unions too. Anyway I am off topic.
I had paid to attend a conference today (Friday) so we came home yesterday. I read the information quickly (did I say I read very slowly - and need to, in order to get the info right?) You probably guessed it. My husband dropped me off that the Blackfoot Inn as I told him that was the hotel. I went in and they had no such conference booked. So I called a unit clerk from my last job as I knew she would have the info.
I was at the wrong hotel. I got a cab to take me to the correct place - a $30 ride.
I went in and asked where the conference was - it was yesterday!! GRRRRR
Rather than another costly ride, I took the bus to the city centre and walked up the hill home. Joe chuckled - he would have been roaring with laughter if I had not blown $130!
On top of that, we took out some retirement savings. It put Joe in another tax bracket so we owe almost $2000. We are on a roll!
I hope everyone has a great weekend.
Lisa: Where were you when I needed you? I know you were probably doubled over with laughter watching me this morning. I miss you always and love you forever. Mummy

It\'s good to know I\'m not alone, though I blame it on my illness. It\'s sometimes so weird to find out I don\'t know what I am doing. It\'s unusual for me and the last few years I\'ve turned up at the wrong places at the wrong times, too. It\'s good you can laugh about it. It scares me a little, feeling out of control. love, Abby
You sure had lots going on this past week ~ no wonder you were so discombobulated!
It took a great deal of moral courage and, I\'m sure, some ambivalent feelings to cross that picket line. But I think for the field that you\'re in ~ well, the patients/clients need care and someone has to provide it! You are a courageous, kind and good woman!
Oh man ~ confusing dates and locations happens to us all ~ sorry this was your week for it. Years ago when we had neither age nor grief as an excuse (perhaps just being goofy, young parents) Rick and I took five year old Allie to The Nutcracker Ballet, only to discover that we were an hour late! We were so upset and Allie was mortified when her friends asked her the next day how the ballet was. So Rick and I managed to get the management to take pity and we went the following week, sitting in chairs normally reserved for the handicapped at the way back of the orchestra seating. At least Allie could tell her friends she saw the ballet!
It is so frustrating wasting all that money on cabs. Bummer! I bet Lisa is giggling, indeed!
Hope the weekend is serene with no unpleasant surprises.
Sending lots of love and big calm hugs ~ Debbie
I couldn\'t help but laugh a little about missing the conference, though I\'m sure it was very frustrating for you.
A long time ago we had to take out money from our retirement fund also and had to pay a lot of taxes on it. It broke our heart but we had no other choice at the time. That was at least 25 years ago maybe more. Now we are retired and I absolutely love being retired!
I\'m laughing with Teri....I awlays worry about doing the same thing!! You sure have been busy!
