Above and Beyond

My cable, phone and internet went out yesterday afternoon.  Time Warner Cable said they couldn't get a technician to me before 7PM.  I have all three with them.  Well, the tech came out,,,checked the system,,then went outside to check the incoming cable.  He said something strange was going on with the electricity.  Sure enough the power went out.  I called the electric company and they said they couldn't come out till this morning even though I'm on oxygen.  So, I called the police department thinking maybe they could put some pressure on.  They said they couldn't but they could send an ambulance.  I told them I didn't want to spend the night in the hospital.  The tech was still around and when I told him what had happened, he got a little uptight.  He called his wife and had her call the electric company about the situation and was told they would get a repair man as soon as possible.  The tech asked if I had battery powered lights and I told him I had a D cell powered lantern.  He said he'd be right back and drove off.  He came back with 4 D cell batteries, 2 large candles, and a small flashlight.  He had gone to the dollar store and bought these with his own money.  Plus, he gave me his card with his home phone number on it and the medical number for the electric company, saying if I had any problems to call him even though Sunday was one of his days off.  This man went way above and beyond his job and was very comforting.  My neighbor seeing I had no power, ran an extension cord from her house house to mine so I could use the oxygen.  Well, the electric repair man came out and I had my power restored before 11PM.  It just shows you that there are people who care.

Yes, it is the few precious Mike that allow for life when we are in such crisis.

I have had to face the painful reality that my \'church\' just down the street form my home has left me, since the death of my husband eleven years ago, as if I had already been dead. They keep my money but my life was as if only garbage for them to toss out. They resent my being left with a voice as a living witness to their brutality most of all. Thankfully we are connected with the internet into a global village or I would have certainly been dead just a short time after the death of my beloved husband back in 03.

I\'m so very glad precious Mike that you were loved and cared for by your fellow humans -- that is all that is truly required for life to be worthwhile.

((hugs))
