About six years ago

Six or so years ago I was still using and abusing dope and my body. I knew it was going to have to stop soon as this f~n disease was going to take it's tole. I knew about tx and what the med community had contributed to the being able to beat this shit but I just wasn't ready to stop using yet. I was living in a trailer in a friends back yard with my cat (my kid really) Moe. He'd been with me for 21 years and even waited in the neighborhood for three years waiting for me to get out of prison. My friends fed him and let me know where he was when I got out. We hooked right back up. He lived with me for another ten or twelve of the worst years of my life. Then I turned 50 and things were just about down to the bottom. I knew it had to change. I got myself this job I have now and it meant that we'd have to move AGAIN. I knew the time had come to turn my life around. I looked at him and said "Well buddy, can you handle another move ?" He looked up and honestly I swear he shook his head "no". He hauled his old tired self up, limped his arthritic hips down the steps, looked back and gave a meow. He passed away that night. I was moving the next morning.  Crushed me....alone for the first time in 21 years. I was still using then and went to see my "guy" and get some "stuff" to kind of help with that. When I got there he had a garage full of kittens. I mean like over 20 !! So I brought home a new friend, named him "twomoe", for number two. A couple of days of watching him just sit there alone, and me being out of stuff, I justified another trip to the garage. I was going to get myself an eight ball of shit and pick up a friend for Moe. When I got there, there in the garage sat just one black cat, sitting on her hind feet with her tail wrapped around her legs, waiting for someone to come back for her. I named her E. B. for eight ball (duh) and brought her home. That was my last trip to the garage and the last time I used.
That was six years ago. The med community had made great strides in beating this disease for geno. 2b. around an 80% cure rate plus or minus depending on mitigating factors. There was not much concern for the remaining 20%.  Now it was time for them to focus on the other geno types. I just new I'd fall into that 80% right ?....wrong!
Now the med community has moved on to the other geno types and I find myself sitting here alone in the garage waiting for someone to come back for me. I know they will, right ? After all, that's what happened for E.B.
