A Woman\'s Place

I grew up hearing about how women should be subservient to their husbands... how they should not speak out in church....   wear their hair long...  not wear pants...   I imagine many of the ladies remember as I do that we could not wear jeans or slacks to school back then...   Its funny I was allowed to wear  a mini skirt....  that was early 60s...  but couldn't wear pants....  I think pants are far more modest...  anyway back to my point....    I was in my 20s before I ever heard scripture that identified a woman as someone to be cherished... When I heard the scripture that says that men should love their wives even as Christ loved the church I honestly cried...  because my thinking was that if men had done that there never would have been any need for women's lib....      I resent very much that the men who guided our churches didn't think it was important to teach about how men should love and respect their wives....  I do believe that for me, and I'm speaking for me alone, I want my husband to be the head of our home... I want to give him respect....  and I want it back....   I don't want my church to lie to me by omission... and that's what the churches did....  I don't think we'd have as many problems with domestic violence or sexual molestation if men had not for centuries acted as if only they mattered... When a man loves his wife as Christ loved the church his children see... His sons understand that is how he needs to treat his wife... his daughters learn that is what they should receive from their husbands....   We don't need to worry about women learning their duties... we've been taught for centuries....  I know that my response sounds bitter... I was bitter... now I think maybe we have learned... but at what price....  I am not happy with mothers going out to work.... I think life was better when mothers stayed home.   Then home was a place for the family to look forward to retunring to...   Old fashioned isn't necessarily something to be scoffed at....   Just some thoughts that are circling in my head...  Now... On to more positive things....  I'm trying to be more diligent in improving my state of mind and thereby improving my self image as I think they are intertwined... So.... What I am thankful for today... The light bill is paid... so I can get online....  yes I'm being silly...  I think being able to laugh is one of the things I do well and I'm thankful for a sense of humor... so that's 2....  I am thankful for the spirit that I have that keeps urging me to try again...  I am truly thankful for it...  and I'm thankful for my friends here....  I'm thankful for the good things we give each other...
