a very hard day

I had a very difficult day yesterday.  The whole day seemed stressful but it was cake compared to the ending.  I have been on a very strict diet I can only eat certain foods and it has been hard but I am doing it and doing well on it.  I now can relate to people going back to smoking during stressful times.
My doggie (Sophie) has not been feeling well drinking lots of water had an accident on the rug and just kind of blah.  After not coming up to bed for two nights in a row I decided to call the vet,  took her in in the afternoon and they did bloodwork and xrays.  The bloodwork did show low blood counts and a few other things but the xray showed fluid in her belly he stuck a needle in there and sure enough it came out full of blood.  He said this is not good.  There could be a few causes but won't know unless he goes in.  $1500 to open her up to see if maybe he could just remove spleen or part of liver if there was benign tumors or could be open up and she is full of cancer and then they would not wake her. or just go home and she will eventually die she is just over 10 years old and the doctor said he had to do the surgery right then and there so I said can I at least call my hubby first, I called and through tears tried to explain the options but I couldn't remember all of the options so I gave the phone to the vet he explained and my husband said go ahead and do the surgery.  Then I had to wait because if she was full of cancer they would come right out and let me know.  Well I waited and the longer it went the better I felt because I figured they would probably know right away if it was bad.  After a very long hour and a half the vet called me back and says you can see her and her spleen I walked in and it looked like a murder scene blood everywhere and he picks up the spleen sitting on a newspaper to show me where it ruptured I didn't need to see that.  They don't know what caused it to rupture but it will be sent away to make sure there is no tumors in there.  She is not out of the woods yet.  I just called and they said she is doing ok but they are waiting to see if she will eat and drink today and then we can call to see if we can get her around 11 this morning.
While all of this was going on my daughter texted me and asked if she could eat the chicken in the fridge, I was upset that I may have to give them some really sad news when I got home and said go ahead.  After it was all over I was at the vets for 4 hours had not had anything to eat in a long time didn't feel well after seeing all of the blood and now I had to figure out what to eat for dinner the chicken in the fridge was my dinner I had cooked it out on the grill the day before because I like having something all ready for days that I have to work or get home late.  I was so stressed when I got home I could not stop crying I wanted to eat healthy but I didn't feel like going to the store and cooking something so I had 2 pieces of thin whole wheat toast with butter and hot chocolate, ( my old breakfast before my diet). I then told my husband I just might have a bowl of ice cream later also, (another favorite, that I don't eat anymore) I did have a small bowl of ice-cream right before bed.  I enjoyed it too!!!
I will get back to better eating today and I need to keep more healthy alternatives around for emergencies.  I am glad that I didn't think of smoking at all during this stressful time.  I have had some stress since I quit but I think this has been the most stressful so far.  I am looking forward to having my fur baby back home where she belongs!!!!!  Her kitty misses her too.
