A TEXT!
ES sent me a text. I text him a couple of times a week trying desperately to somehow keep him in the family loop. They're always simple texts, no criticisms or judgements. "We love you. We're always here for you." "Grandmom is here, hope you'll stop by." "How are you?" I never get a reply and have grown accustomed to that and don't expect one. Then out of the blue, I got a reply. "Sry been real busy. Doing fine and working hard as always."
I'm afraid to feel anything good. At first, I felt elated. "He's alive and fine." Then I felt angry. "He acts like nothing has happened." Now I feel like a dog and he threw me a morsel from his table.
The mom in me worries about his well being. If the NPD/Sociopath GF is in the process of dumping him, he is going to need all of the support he can get. Is she? We don't know. We aren't sure of anything. He lives 10 minutes away and we know nothing about his life now. That is our prayer, our hope, our desperate only chance... that she will dump him. We're afraid that she has permanently damaged him.
Another update: NPD MIL has actually been civil so far into the two week stay in our home for the holidays! No confrontations, no snarky comments (well just a few). If this behavior continues until she goes to the local assisted living facility on the 29th, it will have been a successful visit! : )
She, however, is already doing some manipulation to avoid moving there. The plan has always been that she will go on the 29th. Now she is telling DH, her son, that her wedding anniversary is the 30th, and she wants him to take her to dinner that evening. That sounded a bit odd to me. Her husband has been gone for 3 years. We stopped by the assisted living facility yesterday, and afterward all she could do was complain about it. I'm afraid it is going to be like pulling teeth to get her there by the 29th. There is no way that she can stay in our home for 3 months like she did last winter. DH and I have to stick to the plan.
