A Short History Of The Motorcycle
Todays motorcycles are everywhere and there are lots of different types or types of bikes as well.
The first motorcycle ever assembled was built by the German inventors Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach in 1885 in Bad Cannstatt at Germany. They were really focusing more about the engine which was set up to power the two-wheeled contraption and not so much on developing a new type of automobile, but the consequent impact on motorized travel would be tremendous. There were earlier versions of steam powered bikes, but this was the first oil powered bike.
Not long then in 1894 that the very first production bike went available as the Hildebrand & Wolfmüller motorcycle. It wasn't long after that before several of the bicycle businesses of that time got into the action and started selling versions of what was essentially motorized bikes. However, as fino improved, the engines began to outgrow the bike frames which were used as their own carriage.
The hottest motorcycle business prior to World War 1 was Indian motorcycle. After the war, Harley Davidson took over the number one place until 1928 when DKW became the major motorcycle manufacturer in the entire world. For a few years after World War two BSA took over as the largest motorcycle producer until 1955 when NSU Motorworks who'd started out as a knitting machine firm in 1884 became the most dominant manufacturer for another couple of decades.
In the 1970s the Japanese firms Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Suzuki forced their entry into this field, changed the face of the market, and quickly became the most dominant motorcycle suppliers to the world from then on. Since the 70s Honda has held the name of this world's largest motorcycle manufacturer. Nowadays, the big four motorcycle makers have penetrated practically every motorcycle market in the world, and they're highly regarded as makers of high quality motorcycle products.
In recent years some of the elderly bicycle manufacturers such as the Indian have regained popularity with Harley Davidson being the most successful by far.
