a sad day

I am sad today.  I lost a good friend this morning to breast cancer. She was a first grade teacher and a good one. She had struggled for most of this year. Every treatment to stop the growth but nothing worked for her.  She dealt with the cancer with grace and dignity like no one I have ever known.  She never failed to ask about Steve.  She will be so missed.
You know when someone dies after trying so hard it is up-setting to those left behind who battle.  Steve was away when he heard and he called me crying. Another person lost to this monster cancer.  I am so sad and yet so MAD.  Why can't a cure be found? I just don't understand the madness of all of this.
My grandaughter and the ones of her church who Betsy taught will sing at her funeral. Everyone wanted in Betsy's room which I think is the sign of a good teacher. She was loved.
Rest in peace Betsy Hamrick Hord.

Wanda and Steve, I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. She sounds like the type of a teacher that was a gift to her students. I pray that there is a cure coming for this horrible disease. Prayers and thoughts to you and her family. Hugs Jane

Dear Wanda,
Why so many good people must be victimized by the monster cancer is beyond my understanding - it hurts to think the answer is not just around the corner. We asked people to send donations to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers and so very very many complied, that it was gratifying to see their charity. It is sad when those flowers die, but sadder still when it is children, good men, and good women who lose to the monster. Praying for the answer to come in our lifetime!

Oh, Wanda....I hate so much to hear this terrible news about your dear friend. I have a lifelong friend who is in the last stages of breast cancer too. It truly is SAD! Sounds like Betsy\'s funeral will be very special. My thoughts are with you and Steve.

Wanda, sorry for your loss. I understand the sad and mad feelings, and when I hear about how wonderful a teacher your friend was, I really don\'t understand, unless this is the ultimate lesson for those who knew her. Hugs to you, dear friend.

Dear Wanda, For many years I heard about the ugly disease, cancer. Then, my husband was dx with rcc. Over the years of his fight, I began to understood how so many dedicated people have spent their lives trying to find cures for cancers. Great progress has been made. M would not have lived as long as he did with his cancer if it weren\'t for the people who donated, the people who researched and the patients that bravely endured the clinical trials. The cures are coming. I have no doubt they will save our children and our grandchildren. I pray the cures will come soon enough to save many of those who are suffering today. No matter how far we\'ve come, when we lose someone we love, it isn\'t enough. I am very sorry that you have lost such a dear friend. Please don\'t get too discouraged. Keep hope in your heart. Love you, Linda

Dear Wanda & Steve,

i am so very sorry for the loss of your dear friend, a wonderful teacher i am sure she was, as Linda does say we must all keep hope in our hearts that one day there will be a cure.. As i look back at what treatments there were for kidney cancer 10 years ago, and how long Steve has had mRCC he truly is a miracle Wanda.. Cancer is a cunning and baffleing disease and with hope in the future there will be a cure for all cancers, let us hold on to this hope..

My deepest Sympathies to you Wanda and your family and to Betsy\'s family also,
Love,
Becca

Hi Vernell, I responded to your comments but the e-mail came back. Would you send it again. Glad to hear that the first round is over and that he did so well. Maybe he will be one of the lucky ones like Steve.
