A Question of Faith
As I awoke early this morning, it was a wee bit earlier than normal for me, but I didn't want to be late for my morning "meeting" with God. So, coffee in hand and dogs at my heels, I ventured out back for my visit. And there, due west of where I stood, shown the brightest, fullest moon I can recall ever seeing. What beauty I saw at that moment. I figured I was a little early this day, so I went back inside and lay down for a bit. When I returned outside and sat down, there was the sun rising majestically in the east, just as it has done every day since He put it there, bringing the promise of a new day.
As I sat there, pondering upon the enormity of what I had just seen in the last half an hour, it occured to me that there really are just two choices. One can believe in the "Big Bang" theory, where matter just exploded, and everything we see, everything that was, and everything we are was merely a result of this "accident". Or we can believe that God almighty, with a perfect plan in His mind, created the Heavens, the Earth, and all things upon it. Well, for me, the moon that I saw early this morning, and the sun that I witnessed rising in splendor moments later can not be explained away by "chance". No way. God did this.
My challenge for those of little faith, or those who question their own faith, is this. Get out of bed at 5 o'clock one morning. Sit or stand outside for half an hour or so. Look to the heavens and see. Open your ears to the sounds of the birds. Fill your lungs with the sweetness of the air. Take a moment to consider your life. Think about your parents, be they alive or gone from you. And their parents.....and all the generations that came before them. And know that they saw the same moon...they saw the same sun...they heard the same sounds and breathed the same air that you are breathing now. And then ask yourself this simple question: "Was it a 'Big Bang', or was it God". It's really pretty simple. Why then, do we find it so hard??
