A Pirates GUN Looks at Four

It took four tries, little man, but we finally righted the wrong from your first birthday:  A celebration with Grandma and Grandpa in attendance.  I noted your struggle to hold back tears as we sang happy birthday.  Heck, that song choked me up at your age too.  I doubt the true significance of the moment occurred to you.    As I explained today in answer to your question, Grandma and Grandpa are my mommy and daddy.  The fact that they happen to be my friends only partially addresses your question, hence my explanation.  You have much to learn, but you already know much more than you did a year ago.  You should also know that your daddy is a much happier man than he was a year ago.  I hope you are getting that, too.  I’ve especially enjoyed teaching you to swim this summer.  You obviously have learned about daddy’s friends, and their kids, who are now your friends too.  I suppose we’ve both grown quite a bit in the past year.  Of course, you’re the only one that added a few inches to his height.  You’re almost 41 inches tall now!  Daddy has been working out some so he can still hold you in his arms.  I do enjoy doing that, and hope to keep it up for at least another four years.  The Lord continues to light a way through the darkness, and daddy will follow accordingly.  Walk with me son, and together we’ll reach a glorious destination.  In the meantime, let’s enjoy the journey.  GDAD
