A New Year Get Together

My brother in law mentioned to me before New Years that he wanted to do the usual pork and sauerkraut but not until the following Saturday. He will pick up and bring my sister over and drop off all the food before he gets her

He came and brought her, we had a nice dinner and my nephew stopped over with the kids. We had the squabble with the kids, but after that I looked over and saw Sis cuddling up with her grandson watching something on tv.

Nephew couldn't resist a bit of his Dad's pork then went on to tell us his Mother in law had them over on New Years but she dried up pork chops in the oven then served with sauerkraut and some other stuff. he said he ate other stuff. Then him, his dad and I all talked about his grandmother and some of her traditions  and craziness we missed.   He also asked for Mom's potato salad recipe (since Addi didn't seem that interested) He's gonna try it.

It was nice to spend time with them all and it seems like a nice tradition to try to do a bit more  I have a turkey in the freezer and think I am going to make that and have them over, also they mentioned doing cookies again.  My mind is fulll of different ideas to do with them. It's funny how much moments like these do make the small memories we treasure.

I am truly grateful for the time.

My apt is a decent size. Room for 6 at dining table which is open to livingroom (easily sit 4 more). I often considered inviting everyone, but seldom did because I worried all would not be comfortable or everything had to be perfect and preplanned. What I discovered was that they were more comfortable and did not really care. (I worried for nothing)

Listen my friend. We had almost 20 people around a dining room table that seats 12. We just moved closer together. One time we had the kitchen table at the end of the dining table. We were loud and had so much fun. No dining room etiquette observed. One day we were laughing so hard, some of us fell off our chair. That is all that matters, my friend. getting together and enjoying the day.

Let go of perfect. Just enjoy what is there at the time. Sounds like a wonderful meal and gathering of people who love each other. We do worry for nothing! We beat ourselves up over nothing.
