A new week
First of all I'd like to thank everyone for your kind and encouraging comments. I started writing this mostly just to talk to Abby. I didn't know that others would read it, and I didn't care, and I was really surprised when people commented. But everyone has been so kind and so supportive I'd like to thank everyone but I'd never get anything else done. I'm also not sure that I'm supposed to.
Stopped by the doctor's office today for a check up. My doctor, the "Voice of Doom", for thirty years this guy has been telling me "You're gonna die boy!". Today he didn't say anything like that. He was all about how well I was doing. He's scaring me now. Oh, everyone in the office knew Abby from when I had a stroke two years ago.
Friends from Germany are flying into NYC at the end of the year, they want to get together, could be interesting.
My friend Dave in Aruba is insisting that I come down forĀ a while. I know what he's up to. I've been expecting it for a while. We used to be business partners here in the states after he retired the first time. We did very well. We're sorta opposites, he's big picture, get the job done and I'm more details and that corner isn't square. His new business in Aruba has been doing well and I know what he has in mind. I'm not sure about it. Emigrating is a big deal and he's like this aging playboy while I'm more of a staid homebody. Perhaps I should change, maybe I'm too willing to commit to a relationship. It sure hurts when they come to an end. I've been ditched, dumped, divorced, and now died on. I think that about covers it.
I think that's enough of my soap opera for one day.

As everyone will tell you - no big decisions if you can help it for a year. I\'m just 5+ months into this, but I think the common wisdom is right. Certainly go visit your friend in Aruba if you are up to it (not that I\'ve been off my little island since May) but a visit isn\'t the same as moving there. I do like your alliteration, by the way! I\'ll have to work on one to the theme of being swept off my feet, a clean sweep, and having my feet swept out from under me.
The folks here at DS are a wonderful bunch of people....no thanks necessary, really, at least not on my part. Glad to read that you got a good report from your Dr today...
Personally speaking, nothing wrong with being willing to commit to a relationship....sure it\'s risky, but it\'s a risk worth taking...As Garth Brooks sings \"I coulda missed the pain, but I\'d have had to miss the dance...\" I hope I get the chance to dance again someday.....
Peace & Comfort to you... ~E~
Glad you got a clean bill of health for your doctor. It is especially important now that we take care of ourselves.
If you want to just talk to Abby you can mark your journal entries \"private\". The button is on the bottom of the posting page. It\'s nice to just talk one-on-one with our loves. Hope that helps.
I\'m rather new here but I have the feeling that whatever feels right for you is okay. (as long as you play nice). If you want to thank people, have at it. If not, that\'s okay too. I find commenting, as well as journaling is a healthy, constructive outlet for my own grief.
And Aruba? GO! You will take your grief with you - but a change is scenery is always nice too!
Blessings,
Linda
It sounds like you are getting a handle on things. Your last post worried me as you were so down. Have you ever been to Aruba? I would go for a visit but wouldn\'t commit to anything this soon after Abbys death. Diane
Well, you might as well at least visit Aruba while you have the chance! You don\'t have to make any rash decisions about the business deal, but it would be fun doing the research! Sometimes, I day dream about running off to some tropical island. I would never leave my home, but I can dream!
