A new day,and the world continues to amaze me
Good morning journal, the time is 8:26am,I am awake and rested.Yesterday,I did not do much with my day,I simply sat and listened;when I went outside to go to the local store,I not only felt the wind,I heard it too,I had forgotten what it sounded like for so long,I just stood for a moment and absorbed it's noise. Many things people take for granted are completely new to me,some are louder than I remember, many not so loud, but all of them hugely pleasant.I stopped again outside the store and watched some children laughing,I have never truly heard my own children laugh, and that brought a tinge of sadness to my soul,it is something I missed as they were growing up.Although my left ear remains for the most part silent,my right ear has enough hearing for me to enjoy simple things like conversation, television, and the various sounds that combine to make up the world we live in today. The strange thing is,I still lipread,I guess I've done it for so long I just can't simply switch it off,it has been a part of my life for such a period of time that it is a part of me,and I do it without thinking. It is the sounds from behind me that sometimes catch me unawares, our youngest dog,who was one year old two days ago, barked to attract my attention in the kitchen,I almost jumped clear out of my clothes, much to his amusement. As for other news,we continue to sleep on the lounge floor,as fast as we dry out the bedroom,it gets wet again,so we are left in limbo as to when our landlord will get around to repairing it.We still have no news of any money coming in from the benefit people,so we carry on in hope and prayer for now.It is a worry, but what can you do except pray for some divine intervention, either that or six numbers to come up on the lottery, wouldn't that be nice!!. My eldest daughter, who will be thirty four on the thirtieth of March,is once again in hospital;she has been ill for years, ever since childhood, and needs morphine to control her pain level, and, like any parent,I wish I could take her pain from her,but she remains doggedly determined, and every time I speak to her I get the same answer,"I'm fine dad". We both know she's telling her old man fibs, but she is very like me in a lot of ways,we know we are ill,but we will deny it to anyone who asks us.So life trundles on regardless and we make the best of it that we can,one day, hopefully soon, life will take a turn for the better,it can't get much worse that's for sure.As always,I am so grateful to my wonderful friends here on this site,it never fails to amaze me how people I have never met can care so much,my friends,I am truly thankful and humbled by your concern, all of you remain in my thoughts and prayers.Well journal, enough of my ramblings for today,I think I will work a little on my novel for a bit, till tomorrow then, peace be with us.

I was born mostly deaf. Learned to lipread like other people learn to talk. I didn\'t talk for a long time and when I did, the pronunciation wasn\'t very good because I didn\'t really hear the words. Anyway, they did surgery and improved my hearing, but to this day I still lipread. It fills in the blanks when I\'m not sure that I hear a word correctly. You will probably always lipread as it is second nature now. So glad you can hear now. I think we appreciate the sounds we hear more than other people who have always heard and take this sense for granted.
