A new book for an old story

hello, friends
I decided to invest some $$$ in a new Bible. It has LARGE PRINT for my aging eyes. The words of Jesus will be in RED. Lastly and most importantly, it is the KING JAMES VERSION I read and memorized as a child.
During the years I was homeless and moving from place to place with little other than the clothes on my back and the possessions in a few bags, I lost ALMOST everything. But somehow I never misplaced the Bible that my grandmother gave me. It was Christmas of 1954, when I turned 9. She wrote FOR MY SWEET LITTLE GIRL.
It's 60 years old now and the pages are so fragile that they crack. So I will continue to keep it as an heirloom, but for my daily readings I will use the new Bible (when it arrives).
I hated some of the newer versions of the Bible. Why was it necessary to take beautiful, poetic words and replace them with mundane words? The King James wasn't "broke" so why try to "fix" it? I consider myself lucky that I can find a Bible now that is King James! It's almost extinct!
To give an example:
King James version: "In my Father's house are many mansions."
newer version: "In my Father's house are many rooms."
The word "mansion" connotes something very different from a mere "room".
And what they did to the 23rd Psalm is a crime! My mother passed in 2011 and requested that the 23rd Psalm be read at her service IN THE KING JAMES.
Love you, friends.

Judy, I am so pleased to hear you found a Bible that you wanted. I spend an hour each day in meditation and prayer. God certainly has been good to me and my family, we have a lot to be thankful for. Please read my journals sometime. Three of us (family) have had cancer and beat it...God is good. God Bless you, keep the Faith, the world we live in is full of evil. Ron

MY first \'\'HOLY BIBLE\'\' I bought it for 20 pence at a church sale, and yes it is in need of restoration, king James, I don\'t like any other, my second one I forgot at my daughter in my grandson room, I asked my daughter to get it downstairs in the lounge so I could take it home, forgot again, for 2 nights my grandson was crying and waking up , I said to my daughter, take the \'Bible \'\' to Lucian room and leave it there, he has been sleeping since, she is a bit afraid of her husband, he doesn\'t understand much about \'\'THE LORD\'\' , and his parents go to church but it is all smoke and no fire.
I am happy to see you reading the Scriptures, I too have one new version with the red Scriptures, never read from it, got to try and find an old one, second one from the charity shop.
The LORD, bless you and keep you safe, gives you joy, peace, tranquillity , in JESUS name , blessings Lucy**

I m glad to her you re getting back to God\'s love letters. They speak to you. about the different versions........some people have issues with KJV, it\'s not always because of the language. It also is because of \"My grandmother red that bible!!\" Sometimes, this is a bad thing for them. There were issues between them and that relative that had nothing to do with God. But, we need to be open to \"newer\" versions. For others. We, ourselves, might need the stability the a KJV affords. There might be more to the story than you know. Please be open to others need for a \"newer\" versions. I find they are fantastic for study. To help me with interpreting scripture. No, I rely mostly on the spirit to help me interpret. But, \"newer\" versions help.

Still, it\' good to hear you are getting back to the basics. It will help with the other issue. The sword of the Lord....the scripture (in any form...it\'s what it represents more than what it is)

i totally LOVE bible commentary. its written in ordinary english and includes the history of what was going on at the time. a lot like bible study retreat material. i was a religion major for a while in college, so i guess that\'s why i like it so much.

dictionaries are like that too, if you compare definitions, they vary according to the publisher.

our minister used to urge us to study greek, because the original NEW TESTAMENT was written in greek, everything else is a translation. if you can learn greek you can get a greek new testament, and read it PURE.

cool that your grandmother\'s gift bible survived the years. xxoo
