A month

A month has gone by.  It's probably the longest period I've ever lived alone in my life.  I've survived, with tears and without, feeling desperately lonely but also feeling ok.  It probably helped a lot that my daughter worked weekends when she was here so I only ever saw her in the evenings, so the evenings are the worst.  I'm managing to feed myself ok but the food I cook is not nearly as tasty as hers, even though she gave me a couple of generic recipes.  Don't get me wrong - I cooked for the girls for 20-odd years and know how to, but I'm just not imaginative like my daughter.  I tend to do the old tried-and-true traditional meals which get rather boring.  I really, really miss her wonderful food.
She's now moved into her own place.  She was staying with her sister up til now, but has moved in to a sleepout attached to a house where an old school friend of hers lives.  It's great that she has her friend there - makes things so much easier for her.  She's bought a bed and bedside table and bookshelf for her stuff - says she's glad she's no longer living out of a suitcase.  She still hasn't found a job although she's applied.  She's only looking for a short-term job at this stage because she and her sister are coming to NZ for two weeks in December.
Needless to say, I'm looking forward to those two weeks.  They'll stay here for a few days, travel around and then we're all going to my brother's place for Christmas.  Really looking forward to it, but I know I'll be devastated when they leave again.  I'll have to get used to living alone all over again, knowing that they won't be back.
One day at a time.  That's the only way...
