A Long Day
It has been a while since I journaled. Things have come and gone. Yesterday, I got up at 4 AM to take my hubbs to the surgery center for knee surgery. Talk about the sick taking care of the sick. Anyway, they got him ready and then called me back to sit with him. Then, the anesthesiologist came it. He grab Fred’s chart to review it. Came back in and asked questions. Since Fred has had bilateral pulmonary embolisms, he suggested doing an epidural. The last surgery they tried a spinal and they were unsuccessful. There I sat on my walker seat, when I asked a question. If he has the spinal, is it short acting so he can go home on crutches? One would think that this was a question of somewhat intelligence. The doctor smarted off saying, “Well of course you won’t be able to carry him home” He never answered my question. Fred looked at me and I must have looked like I was getting ready to climb over his bed rails to get at that doctor. Fred gave permission to try a spinal. Surgery went well and thirty minutes later Fred’s ortho doc came out with pictures of Fred’s knee. He had another torn cartilage along with bone spurs. No wonder he was in pain! I thought everything was going to plan. Called Fred’s brother to come and help me get him home. Fred on crutches and me in a walker. We waited for one and a half hours and still no word on Fred. Something’s wrong. We should be home by now. I waddled up to the info desk and asked them to check on Fred. They did. Fred did have the spinal. If someone had told me that then I would not have worried. Forty-five minutes later, he came home
