A little scare...
After worrying I wouldn't receive another u/s until 20 weeks, I got one at 8w2d... but not under the circumstances I'd imagined.
On Friday morning, the dogs woke me up at 6:15, and soon thereafter I began experiencing VERY severe abdominal cramping. I couldn't get into a position that was even remotely comfortable -- sitting, standing, various reclined postures... nothing helped alleviate the pain. It was a constant, low pain, with moments that came in waves and were much more intense. Eventually, by about 8am, I was able to do some deep, meditative breathing and find enough relief to fall asleep for a wee bit.
I didn't want to seem like a worrywart, because I wasn't having any bleeding, but my level-headed hubby told me to call the OB anyhow & let them decide how I should proceed. (Thanks for being rational, my wonderful guy)!
I called the office at 9, got an appt by 9:45, and dealt with a doctor I've never met before but who was very attentive and showed what I considered the "right" level of concern -- not enough to make me nervous, not so little as to make me feel brushed off. She did a pelvic exam, didn't see any blood internally and noted that my cervix was closed. Still, she said she wanted to air on the side of caution & ordered an u/s. I only had to wait until 11:00 for the u/s tech to have an opening; so, this whole episode was resolved very quickly.
She didn't see any cysts (which I was a little worried about, since my cycle was postponed due to a large ovarian cyst). And most importantly, baby looked great! Measuring 2 days behind (8w) @ 1.63cm and with a HR of 168bpm. She indicated to me that those numbers seemed great.
Ah, relief! So, the moral of the story is: be careful what you wish for! I think I'll be ok now, knowing that my next u/s may not be until I'm at 20w!!!
