A little discouraged

Finding DS has been a comfort to me, enabling me to connect with others sharing similar issues.  This journey has been a great one!  I often think about the friends I've made when I first joined.  Many of them are no longer here....and I wonder how they're doing, and coping with their lives.  Since the early beginnings, I've made more friends of course, which is nice too.  However, for me, the most important features on this site are those which address my "issues."
It's been a real pleasure participating in the support groups!  The number one for me has been "Caring for Aging Parents" because my mom has Alzheimer's related dementia.  Thankfully, she's doing ok for now, in spite of the progression of the illness.  Other members of this group have supported me 100%, and I'm grateful.  It's also rewarding whenever I reach out to help someone else in need.  All it takes is a couple of minutes to brighten someone's day.
I'm also a member of 3 support groups dealing with domestic violence, since my life has been sadly impacted by it.  The question is....where is everybody???  I often check these groups, but most of the time, they remain inactive.  New members have become discouraged because many times they don't get feedback.  This is so FRUSTRATING because I can relate to what these women are going through.  Just knowing that someone cares makes all the difference.  Hopefully, the pace will pick up soon, as I look forward to more participation.
But until that time....I may not spend as much time on here.

Hi Sabrina,

Great to hear how much the DS support has helped you. You sure have been a support to me when I needed it!

I\'m one of those people who is inactive for long stretches of time, but it\'s good to know you\'re there when I need someone who understands.

The \"Caring for Aging Parents\" group has been one of the most helpful for me too. I really makes a difference to have support form people with first-hand experience.

I had similar experiences to you in some of the other groups where I wrote a long post and no one replied, or the responses were kind of weird. But you\'ve always been rock-steady, even when things have been tough for you.

I\'m so glad to hear that your mother is stable now. We\'re getting ready to celebrate my mother\'s 90th birthday. I know she\'s not going to be around for a lot longer, but we\'re making the best of it.

Big hugs to you and all the best!

Hey Sabrina, just to let you know that I\'m also here almost every day, just I\'m not very active. I\'ve missed some time and now I\'m trying to catch up what happened to everyone in the meantime. When I have time I journal. Sometimes noone comments, but it\'s ok. The journal helps me to crystallize my thoughts and to solve some problems, sometimes on my own, sometimes with the help of my friends.

Thank you for all your hugs, your support meant a lot to me!

Hope to hear from you again soon.

Gentle hugs

Sabrina, alot have commented on the lack of \"participation\" on here lately. I think alot of the guys have come home and I think also summer impacts everyone\'s life with so much activity. My world has been a whirlwind since Feb and haven\'t been able to be on here much...BUT, I cleaned house a few weeks back and now my life is calming down and I can refocus on what and where I NEED to be, which is being active on this site....Hugs my friend...

I think you\'re right about that....during the summer people tend to be outdoors more often, and away on vacations. So pleased to hear from you, my friend!

Hi Sabrina,
Something told me to check in on you today - I\'m glad I did. I noticed that there isn\'t much activity here and so I have been guilty of not participating. But it\'s time to join in again. I am sending you good karma and a big hug. Take care my friend.

hi sabrina. thank you for being my friend on DS. this an awesome group....so my mom and i went through what you are. my mom\'s mother developed the dementia, alzheimers when she was like 82-84-? cant remember, but i do remember mom and me crying in her car in the parking lot. mom would just fall apart at the seams. i never really had domestic abuse. i do have health concerns as well.
i\'m up like 2am everyday now. triggers- past sexual, mental, emotion, and verbal abuse issues. a lot of triggers. my dad was the one....
anyway, i have ptsd. so all i know is what i\'ve heard is that \" you are right where you are meant to be at this moment\" it is overwhelming. then you get peace. but you peel onion layer and layer, and finally get deep into yourself. and find yourself. i feel pretty well, but am lately having a few setbacks. so hang in there. people on here care about you remember.
\"hugs\' to you gizzzzzzzzy
