A little bit of progress
I made a little bit of progress this week. I looked at some of the ways I had allowed food to become an emotional crutch and set some goals for myself. A structure to live by. Such as:
No eating on the couch
No eating after 8 pm
Eat 5 servings of fruits/veggies daily
Eat only at specific meal/snack times
Sweets every other day
No seconds
Eat off smaller plates
Track calories
Monitor serving sizes
Weigh daily
Journal my feelings, don't eat my feelings
Walk 3-5 times a week
When I stop doing these things, I gain weight. I want to believe that I don't have to do these things and I will be okay. But I really am like someone in recovery, it is something that has to be managed for the rest of my life. I am fooling myself if I think otherwise. I have been fooling myself for the last 8 years, which is why I have gained so much weight. I thought I was done when I quit weight watchers. I am not. I don't want to go to the meetings anymore and pay to weigh in, but I do have to figure out to manage this within my world. I have to do these things even with teenagers, aging parents, a demanding job, a faculty lounge full of sweets, and all the other demands of life. I want to figure it out, so I will like the body I am in and be proud of myself.
