A little bit of Background
I am 24 years old. I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 8 years old in the third grade. After an incident at work my mom and I went to get a diagnosis, and as of last week I have a High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder (Aspergers, they apparently clump it all under one now). The only reason I can talk about the following events is because my mom remembers them, I don't. (Just an FYI, this may be a little scatter brained.)
FriendsWhen it comes to friends, I can count mine on one hand (not including family members), and I don't even need that. I have had friends, but keeping them was the hard part. It seems like when I was about 10 or 11, I didn't have any. My best friend, that has been that forever, went to a different school until we were in 7th grade. In 5th or 6th grade I remember standing on the playground all by myself wishing someone would come and ask me to play with them, because for some reason I couldn't walk up and ask them if I could play myself. Then 7th grade came, and my best friend who we will call Mary, was finally at school with me. Well she found a group of friends. So I felt kind of alone again, but I eventually became friends with Mary's group of friends and we were all friends all through high school. During my junior year of high school, I began to date a boy, I pretty much spent most of my time with. I started to not hang out with my friends, I was with him all the time. He was a senior. When he went to college, I started hanging out with my friends again, but I texted him all the time. I actually saw a psychologist about it because I was a little obsessed. After high school, all of my friends went their own way, and by the second year of college we pretty much seemed to have lost touch. I went to college for a semester. And then there was about a year and a half in there that involves the boyfriend, but I'd rather not talk about that. Point blank, he was not a nice person. I was working at a local favorite restaurant when I was 20 and myself and the owner became best friends. We knew everything about each other. (I have never been able to associate really well with people my own age. I feel more comfortable with people either older or younger than me.) He was 47 at the time. We began dating, and today 4 years later, we have been married for 2 years. :-) Meltdowns and Sensory IssuesWhen it comes to meltdowns, I don't really have them anymore, but when I was younger...YOU BETTER WATCH OUT! My mom used to have to wrap me up in a sheet to try to control me, because I remember kicking her legs and bruising her. When the movie Mighty Ducks came out, my dad bought all the equipment for me to play hockey. Come the first practice, I ended up laying on the ice screaming and crying. So much for hockey. We went in Claire's (the girls earring and accessory store) and not even 5 min being in there I would be on the floor screaming. Some of it like the Claire's incident was sensory issues, because when I was in high school I couldn't go in clothing stores with loud music, that were dark, or that just had to spray the store brand cologne all over the place. I still have issues with loud music, or even with the big department stores I just recently realized. I'm used to a couple of malls with the department stores but if it is a different mall, it is a little stressful.
