A little about me
Hi everyone, my name is Susan and I'm very new to this forum. I found it with the hopes of getting sober because I'm about to lose my job. I am 45 years old and I'm going through a very painful divorce at the moment. 10 days ago I moved out of our home and into a condominium that's closer to work, and have signed a years lease for it. I've already missed 7 days of work this year because I was too drunk to go in. I made up lies and made Dr's appointments for fake conditions to get an excuse notes. As a result I received a verbal warning and can only miss one more day before I am fired.
I consider myself a binge drinker, because I can go weeks without drinking but when I do start drinking I don't stop. So today, I have resolved to not drink Monday through Friday. I've done it before and I'm much better at my job when I am successful.
I am happy to find this website, have 3 kitty cats to be accountable for including and most importantly myself. If anyone has any experience with binge drinking and how they were able to beat it, I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks everyone! I will update you tomorrow with how my progress goes today.
Be happy, be well.

Hi Susan, I\'m sorry for your pain with your divorce. My divorce was final March 2015. How long were you married? It\'s hard. I know!!! Thanks for your pat on the back. I have finally learned that alcohol doesn\'t help and I\'m not missing anything by not drinking. Not to say that I don\'t think about it, but it\'s not really a huge struggle. When you say once you start you don\'t stop, do you mean for that day/night? Or does it go on for days? I could go for weeks too. And once I started, there was no off switch. I just kept going, until I was passed out, blacked out until the morning. For me, I wouldn\'t drink again that day. Because I felt like shit, the guilt and shame was enough. Until that passed after several days, a week and I\'d do it again. In the moment, I like it. It felt good. I started to forget and have fun. But I\'ve finally embodied the knowledge that everything is still there, even worse, the next day. I don\'t know why it took me so long to learn. I guess we just have to be ready. Ready to put ourselves first. To pay attention with compassion for ourselves. My name is Jill by the way. Just like sukie, I\'m graciepie. I have made some wonderful friends here on DS. Women just like us. Trying to learn and grown and certainly fumbling as we go. Here for you. You can do it. I was reading a great book tonight by Pema chodran, taking the leap, freeing ourselves from old habits and fears. Take care of you. Much love and peace being sent your way. Xo
HI Jill... thank you for the note. I was married for 8 years. We really started to pull apart several years ago - we have no children (human kind) together and thus didn\'t really have a common goal, I suppose.
When I start to drink it will start early, once I wake up and continue throughout the day and night until I passed out in bed. Usually lost memory of the early afternoon and evening before. And, yes. It goes on for days. This last one was 4 days, which 3 of them I called in sick with a \"back problem\" due to my recent move.
You\'re right, everything was still there after I sobered up. And, it was worse knowing I had spent 100\'s of dollars on booze, drove drunk, spent a precious day off drunk, etc.
Yesterday was my first day of making a conscious effort not to drink. I made it, but I missed the \"routine\". No Irish coffee in the morning, no cocktail to help me sleep. I\'ve got a heck of a headache but it knocks down with Ibuprofen.
I\'ll take a look for the book you recommended! Perhaps that can be my new routine! And THANK YOU for listening and taking the time to write back. It\'s a special person who looks after another.
PS - and my name is Susan, but people have called me Sukie for years. =) You are welcome to, as well. Much love.
