A Hockey Christmas
Okay, just one more Christmas story. One a little more recent. As I was trying to get a little Christmas spirit, I rummaged around the closet that has a little bit of everything in it including some of my Christmas stuff. I wanted to get my Santa slippers to wear Christmas day. You wouldn't believe they look like Santa heads complete with beards. And there are three caps,,,a regular Santa cap,,,a red baseball cap with a green bill that says "North Pole University",,,and another red baseball cap with green bill that turns into a pointed Santa with a big white ball at the end that says, "I Believe In Santa Claus" in gold letters. It's this cap that brought back a fun memory. As most of you know, I live in Waco,Texas,, not a hot bed for winter sports except football. But what you may not know is that Waco had a professional hockey team. Yep, hockey,,,for three years...the Waco Wizards. It was like a class A baseball team. It wasn't a great team, but I'd been a hockey fan for years and it was great to see games in person. Like I said, it wasn't a great team and they lost a lot of their games. In the middle of November of the first year of the team I bought the "Believe" cap and wore it to a game. And the team won! They next time I wore it, they won again! I told the other fans about the cap and the Wizards winning and thought it was funny. So I thought. Well, at the next game you wouldn't believe how many caps were in the stands! And the Wizards won more than they lost for the rest of the season. I wish I'd had a percentage of the sales because K-Mart where I bought the cap sold out and had transfer caps from other stores.
