A Hectic Month
The past month has been pretty full on. After all the drama it appears that my mother's health issues have been stabalized and she will be going home from rehabilitation later this week. I have found the travelling back and forth to visit three times a week quite onerous and will be glad to get back to my weekly visit.
To be honest I would rather Mum had gone to a supported living environment but for now she wants to be at home. She already had quite a few services but these will be increased. I have concerns because although they cleared the esophagus she has to have her food pureed but hopefully she will be fairly closely monitored.
Thanks to all of this I have been exhausted and have not maintained much contact here at DS. Hopefully this will change now. I really value this environment and find that the shared knowledge makes such a difference.
During my many hours driving I have been listening to Sheila Hancock's 'The Two of Us'. Her account of John Thaw's (her husband of 28 years) death from cancer and her grief is very moving and insightful. I would recommend it. Indeed, I think i will borrow more audio books. My concentration is still not brilliant but I find this a great diversion as I drive.
Thanks to those of you who have thought of me and tapped on my chamber door. I do hope to be more present again.

l,m glad your mother is ok,if she wants to be at home, whilst it may be hard for everyone,l know you will all help her, theres nothing else we can do for elderly parents,if they need us we have to be there no matter how hard it is for us,l know,my mother is so hard work lately,l,m glad l have my sister to bounce my feeling of too.
l love Sheila Hancock,l watched a programme she did a while ago about grief and the death of her husband, she was saying that all the books she read did,t make her feel any better,l agree,so she went on a hunt for the best solution to her grief,l think she found it in some riligion, but l can,t remember what it was, brain still muddled.
take care
Alice
I hope that as things settle down with your mom, you too can find some peace along the way. As busy as you have been, we have not left so please stay connected. Hugs...Nancy
Home is where the heart wants to be. I hope she does well. Hugs!!!
I know that people are much more comfortable in their own homes. It\'s frustrating, though, when you\'d rather have somebody keeping an eye on her all the time. I hope it works out well for her there.
Thanks for the book recommendation. It sounds like something I\'d like to look into.
Hugs, Gail
I know when a parent gets to the point that your mom is, you want them closely watched. I was fortunate that I was able to keep my mother home till she breathed her last, that being her wish. I think that your mom will do better in her own surroundings and do well and be at peace. What I worry about is the toll that this has taken on you. I am glad that you found the audio books, they do help when you have a lot of driving to do, almost like someone is with you. Please take care of yourself, and I am glad that your mom is on the mend. Hugs Jane
I wish you and your mother well. Take care of yourself too.
HUGS

Will her coming home be an increase in responsibilities for you? I hope not. You sound worn out. And believe me, I know the feeling all to well. You and I should meet somewhere for a party....if only.
The book sounds interesting. How can you drive and listen? I would nod off to sleep. I have driven thousands upon thousands of miles and depend on loud, obnoxious, rock and roll to stay alert. LOL.
Hugs

We suffer our loss but then life has a way of going on. Taking care of your mother is something you would have done regardless. It sounds as if there is some resolution to help ease the stress. Hoping all works out well for you.

I\'m glad your mother is doing better, and I hope now you can catch up on some rest. Hugs from Sil
I hope things go as well as possible for you and your mother. Hopefully things will be a little more settled for you both. Take care and look after yourself. Patrick
I also like to listen to audio books when I travel. In the early days after Bill\'s death, long trips alone were a torture. I would replay the scene at the hospital over and over and would sometimes have to pull over because of the tears. Having a book playing helped to distract me from the replays and has become a habit now. It also helps the time pass more quickly.
I am so glad that they have your mom stabilized and that she is now able to be in her home. I hope that you now can have a good long time period of having no stress and worry and can rest up and regroup.
My mom is still in the hospital. Next week they are going to mover her to a rehabilitation facility and see if they can get her walking again. If she does not do well with that she will be transferred back to the transition unit she is on and wait for a bed in a long term care facility. At least now I know where things stand so it does take some of the stress off me.
I am glad to hear that your Mother is doing better. I\'m sure she feels that home is the best environment for herself. I hope all works out for both of you.
Hope you can rest a little easier now. Hugs, Sue
