A Healing Place

I am preparing myself for my surgery July 10th. I am doing something everyday to contribute to a place of healing. I've planted my favorite flowers, cucumber and tomatoes in containers on my patio. The cucumbers are fun to watch. They grow visibly every day and they hide their cukes for me to find. Whimsical! The flowers are in my favorite pinks and purples. The special added treats they bring are the hummingbirds that come to visit. My grandmother always had fuscias in her garden and tought me to appreciate hummingbirds. I've named one Lucy, after her, and another Jack, because I love Jack Sparrow. LOL! Last week, my husband and I enjoyed a trip to Monterey where we bought windchimes for the garden. The sound is so beautiful and peaceful. I've also been incorporating meditations into my healing process. It does change my state of mind and body. I have a CD that walks me through a mediation. It starts me out visualizing a calm and peaceful place. Our favorite place to vacation is Hawaii, so I put myself on the lanai in Kauai overlooking the ocean and palm trees. Then, it moves a "screen"  into the scene where I see myself in the OR and all of the medical staff around me. It talks about the way they care about their work and want to take the best care of me. It also has me add all of my loved ones surrounding me with their love. It was very comforting. I hadn't heard this guided meditation before chemo-radiation, but during my radiation treatments I surrounded myself with the white light of love and protection and then "felt" the love from the people in my life healing my body. It kept me positive and relaxed. I've been gaining strength since my chem-radiation and the body pain that followed. I've been increasing my walking from 1/2 mile, now up to 3 miles! One of my favorite things to do is to hike. I love the sound of the dirt trail under my feet, the smell of the bay trees and manzanita. The sounds of the breeze through the trees and the birds singing. It feels good on my body to have elevation changes. (Somewhat hilly for now, but I love to climb the mountain when I have the strength!) Yesterday, my husband and I hiked two miles! It felt so good in my heart to be out in nature and to take it all in. We're taking a trip to Pismo Beach before my surgery. I might bring my paints and paint while watching the waves lap onto the beach. Or maybe I'll just sit and take it all in. The best part? My husband and soul-mate will right by my side. I am so Blessed♥

Hi mtdhiker:

Sounds like you have gotten yourself into a very welcome place. I had my rad/chemo/surgery in 2004. I was in and out of the hospital so often that I never got close to where you are.

Your husband sounds terrific. My wife was (and still is) fantastic. You are fortunate to have him with you.

We wish you well and we\'ll keep you both in our prayers. If your husband gets a moment, we\'d love to know how you are doing.

All the best,

Fred

That\'s a great idea, Fred. I just showed Howard how to access the Journal. Thank you for your prayers! Mine are with you, as well.
