A Good Halloween
So we celebrated Halloween last night (just in case we needed the morning to sleep off any misdoings... we didn't).
Lately I have been using humor to diffuse any bad tempers around the house regarding me being gay. My mom, my brother and his girlfriend were in the room when my Mom asked what I was going to be for Halloween. Since my Dad had just gotten into one of his moods I said, "Well you know I was going to get these huge fairy wings...". My brothers girlfriend said "Really? I'll go to the costume store right now and get a pair too!" It was totally sweet. I really like her, she has really been good for my big bro. But what he said shocked me and almost got me teary; "Yeah, I'll get some too, we'll get a pair for you too Mom, it'll be great". The best part of it is he was genuinely sincere, and I think my Mom might have actually done it. They would actually have gone out in public in fairy wings if they thought it would support me. They have come a long way in a few short months. Unfortunately my Dad only grumbled audibly when he heard the joke, but frankly he can't hold onto this anger much longer; he may be stubborn, but I am king in that department-- I'll win.
Unfortunately I had to break the news that I was in fact The Mad Hatter this year. It was an out of the bag costume, but thanks to some handy alterations I did (thank God I was an art major) I ended up winning best dressed in the costume contest.
Was a good night,
Steve
