A Father\'s Love

My son Clinton absolutely loved his kids to pieces.  Not to say that he didn't get aggravated, nor was he  always the perfect parent but... His boss told us this story and I wanted to share it with you all.  Clinton worked for an electrical company and was one of their lead electricians.  His boss told us that he noticed that as the kids got older and in school, that Clinton would want to begin work earlier and earlier.  Clinton would want to come in at 6:00 a.m. and his boss finally figured out that the reason he wanted to start work so early was so he could be home when the kids got off the bus from school at 3:15 p.m. so he could spend as much time as possible with them.  I think he finally told Clinton that about the earliest they could really start most jobs was between 7:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., especially when they were on a big job and there were other contractors there. Another thing that Clinton always did, without fail... Every morning before he left the house, he would go to each child's bed, rouse them up, tell them that he loved them and would see them later and kiss them goodbye.  He always kissed Amy (wife) goodbye, whether he was aggrevated with her or not, and always loved on his dog.  He always said, "Mom, you just never know when something might happen and you might not see each other again".   As I look back at the last few years of Clinton's life and the different things that he did and the different ways he looked at things, it was like subconsciously he was preparing for what happened.  So many times we think that we will have plenty of time to do things with our kids or to say things or show people how much we love them and all too soon it is gone.  Clinton never missed an opportunity to enjoy his children and let them know they were the joy of his life. I miss my boy so much and anxiously await the time I can see him again.  Until then, I will try to follow his example of taking advantage of what time I have here to enjoy my family.

He sounds a lot like his mother!! What a wonderful man and father. Sorry, I haven\'t been by as often as I would like, but things are in a different kind of a whirl around here. I think of you every day...even if I don\'t stop by to check in. Please know I\'m thinking of you! Cyn

Thank you for sharing your story. He certainly had the right idea. I have learned that lesson the hard way, even though I always told everyone I loved them when I would leave or hang up the phone, but now I make sure I say that and more because you don\'t know when that last conversation with them will be the last. Your son sounds like he was a wonderful father and his children will always carry that in their hearts.
