A down day

I am in Edmonton visiting our son, DIL and Joe's sister.  It has been a bit of a downer.  Joe's sister is visibly weaker and has lost more weight.  She does not absorb the nutrients from food.  She had been nauseous for a couple of days but was able to eat a bit yesterday.  She seemed to enjoy our visit but tired very easily.  She has fluid drained from her abdomen twice a week - about a quart and a half each time. Thankfully, her husband has been wonderful (it is not easy for me to say nice things about Ed as we disagree politically - it is a game now).
And, the kitty that was shipped to our son from Ontario is not well.  Mystic is a beautiful, long haired black cat with a wonderful temperament.  He was lethargic and vomited when we came so took him to the vet on Monday.  He had no obvious reason e.g. blockage so gave him an antinausea drug by needle and we came home.  Yesterday he was more lethargic and would not eat or drink.  Back to the vet - blood work - which was negative.  So we are giving him fluids by syringe.  He is a bit brighter today but still not eating or drinking.
Joe is supposed to be going to LA next week.  The airline pilots are set to strike on Monday.  Lets hope they come to some agreement.
So it goes.

Seems a lot to cope with. I don\'t appreciate my forced bed rest and crisis but this is pretty good compared to what so many are coping with. My heart goes out to them in their distress.

When my cat was sick the only thing he would eat is Gerber baby food chicken and all he would drink was homemade chicken stock. I sure hope this helps. Colleen

Marlene, I\'m hoping by now that both Joe\'s sister and Mystic are feeling a bit better. With cats it\'s so hard to know when they are truly ill or not... I hope in Mystic\'s case it\'s just a little bug that\'s got him down. Sounds like a beautiful cat! I didn\'t think I\'d like a black cat until we got our Abby, a tuxedo, and the black fur is just so sleek and glowing with shine--quite beautiful!
Love, Donna

Marlene I hope the pilots didn\'t go out on strike. I hardly ever listen to the news so I really don\'t know. I wish I had read your journal before we chatted this morning. I\'m behind on all my journals. Sending love, Terry
