A dialectical dilemma about feeling horrible

For those familiar with DBT, here is a dialectical dilemma that I am pondering at the moment. Thesis: I feel horrible. Antithesis: I am fine. I am aware that some very bad recent events have happened which have made me feel horrible. I accept that. Sometime in life things happen that you hate and that triggers horrible feelings. That is natural and is to be expected. The horrible feelings will not last forever. It is OK to feel horrible for a while just so long as I don't use that as a reason to do something stupid which will make my life worse. I won't. I will just accept these horrible feelings for now. Thus I am fine.
Strangely, thinking like this takes some of the sting off the horrible feelings.

Good to see it in action, I\'m glad you are fine. Big Hugs

i wish i could get this kinda thinking to work for me. normaly fly off the handle and be impulsive before my head can even contemplate or understand any of those kinda thoughts. unfortantly its the come down from doing something bad/impulsive that i can then look at things that way...bit late then often. Im pleased its helping you to handle things a little better possibley.

Thanks heretic. I have been trying to learn it and apply it on my own. Rrottin, this is just one type of DBT skill. There are other DBT skills you can learn and apply to help control impulsive actions.

Thanks for sharing. I can identify with rottingwithme - I don\'t fly off the handle but I can\'t help ruminating with then can lead to something happening. I hope you manage to get things sort things out.
