A Day for Remembering
I just read a journal that was shared from one of our friends here at FMO...a wonderful story about her little boy and an alligator. Made me smile and then for some strange reason I sat back in my office chair and started reflecting on all the comments that were made on that journal.
I have had a few flashbacks of when the girls were little and they would play their "little girl" games, all made up of course, they both were so creative. I remember the evening when Alexsis was about 7 and MayLyn was 12 or thereabouts and I went to kiss them goodnight and tuck them in for the evening...walked into their room and they were no where in sight. I thought they were once again playing the "hide from Mommy" game when I heard that wonderful sound of giggling coming from the closet. Now mind you it was a huge walk in closet they shared and when I popped open the door expecting to find them standing there...well...they had made a bed out of blankets and pillows and the two of them were all snuggled up on the floor with our family cat (who was dressed in a baby outfit) ready for bed....I fell out laughing! They laughed also...the poor cat looked so miserable! And the two of them looked so adorable!!! Yes, you guessed it, I let them sleep in the closet that night, but I did rescue Turbo the kitty after they fell asleep, undressed her and set her free.
I had not thought about that moment since the year it happened. I am grateful when I read a journal that helps me to remember those small things from when the girls were little. Sometimes I feel as though I am forgetting so many details, so many memories. It scares me since Alzheimers runs in my family strong on the female side. My grandmother died from it and the desease will take my Mothers life within the next few years or less.
Just wanted to share a thought, a memory, a small piece of MayLyn and to say thank you for sending me the message that sometimes it is really a great healthy thing to do, just to sit and remember especially when I spend so much time trying to stay busy thinking I can out run all the pain and hurt. I do feel better already, and the memory made me smile big time.
Peace
