"A Day at Work"
Just another day at work, getting things ready to open the office, make the coffee ,getting all my data and turning the phone on. The workers are coming in and when one of the ladies came in she started talking to me and asking me about the Holiday's. She said are you taking any time Off? I said "No" , I don't have any reason to take time off anymore. She says" You always take time off" I said" Not anymore since Penny had Passed" don't have any other children or anyone to stay home for. What does she say? She said to me " Can't you get past this????" How do you get past the death of your ONLY CHILD?????????? Somebody tell me because I don't know how to get past it and Never will??I thought how rude but I didn't say anything because I was in Shock that she said that! People who didn't have a child die just don't get it,it kills us inside and you never forget, they act like you should be over it ,like throwing trash out. The thing is I don't talk about Penny at work and I act like I am Happy (but not) so why would she say a thing like that? What would you have done, would you told her how ignorant she was to say that or ignored it like I did to keep peace at work? I just wanted to share this story with all of you and send me some advise incase somebody else says something rude, I am not a shy and speechless person,I usually say what I want when I want,I must of been really in a state of shock to be quiet about what she said,I couldn't give her an answer, I had none!

I would have been in shock too! I think I would have to go back to her another day and simply say...I just want you to know that you never get over the loss of a child...you would have to lose a child to understand how difficult it is and I hope you never CAN understand what I am going through. People can be so stupid. Love to you friend...Karen
People are absolutely insensitive dip wads....I hope you can go back to her and say all that needs to be said. I am one who has no problem in the \"words\" dept...and I don\'t think I would let this slide. Let her know how inconsiderate that remark was. You have had some time to think so come up with a good one and let her hear what you have to say....and if you need to take time off just because of that remark...TAKE IT...maybe she will have to work your shift. God be with you...as you face idiots everywhere....Love, Dale...Brandon\'s Mom
It was a thoughtless and ignorant remark. And I would have found it difficult to think in that moment as well do to the shock. As Dale and Karen suggest, I would let her know that her comment was hurtful and shocking. If this is someone you have to work with, you want it to be a pleasant enviroment. Let her know there is no such thing as \"getting past\" your child. Just one more example how we suffer the insensitivities of others while they have no regard for our feelings. I\'m so sorry this happened. I know how painful it was. Unfortunately, most likely, it will happen again. Love, Teri.
I have a friend who\'s known me since high school. She apparently thinks I should be \"over it by now\" too,as she said something like that, I think this was last year. THIS year when I said how hard it was on Lisa\'s birthday I never heard back from her. Never a word. Some people just don\'t get it until it happens to them. Other than that, this old friend of mine is very likeable or I would have stopped contact with her a long time ago! Hugs, Donna
