A Day at the Aquarium
So...as if I'm not surrounded by enough critters each and everyday living with my 3 kitty cats, my husband took me to the aquarium today to see critters of another kind. I was amazed! I thought, well some fishes..that's cool but big deal. Oh, it was a big deal indeed. There were seals and otters and turtles and seahorses....blue crabs and snakes and sharks....what a wonderful display of life (and sometimes I really need that). So I do adore animals and things of the sea and always appreciate them, but today I sort of came to a new level of appreciation. I often poke fun at my kitty cats, telling them "oh I wish I had your life...to sleep all day and eat and bask in the sun....no worries". And this is true. But I do adore them nonetheless and when I need a hug they are there to cuddle with me. So, I saw all of the amazing things today and was just blown away. Seals swimming in a tank, just so happy bobbing in and out of the water....and it was the cutest to see one of them had it's 'arm' (or flipper) around another one as if to say "I love you and will protect you". Don't we all need that once in a while? And the otters...just so darn cute passed out in the sun on their little rocks, and that was how they were content....no demands, no one telling them what to do or to wake up and be useful....how nice :) I could go on and on but I think I've made my point. Just when I think I have it all figured out I see something like that and it really makes me ponder.... Some days I wish I could just wake up and have no worries....no papers to fill out so maybe, just maybe I can get disability and not be judged because I'm too worn out to work. No one to tell me to clean the apartment. No one to tell me that I can't have my favorite foods anymore or I'll get sick. No doctors telling me they have to do more blood work and stick me over and over with needles and bruise my poor arms....I know it's unrealistic, but it's nice to think about. I think that animals represent what could be the very best in all of us....they are so giving, so loving, so affectionate and really, what do they ask for? Food, shelter, a scratch on the ears once in a while (in the case of my new ocean friends today, perhaps a yummy fish or crustacean to munch on). We complain because it takes us 5 minutes to feed them, or clean their messes....but gee whiz, they give so much back. In a way, I'm like that....I give and give and really only want to be loved and accepted and hugged once in a very great while, and gee, it would sure be nice to hear "it's gonna be ok, I'm here with you" more often than I do. If anyone can tell me honestly that I'm asking for too much then I'll crawl in a hole and never come out again and live alone in the dark for the rest of my life. But somehow I think I'll be seeing the sunshine for as long as I'm alive because no one can say that's asking for too much and really mean it unless they are hurting so much that they want to hurt someone else. As for my long lost friends who don't want me around anymore....too bad....have fun with other and don't call me when you need advice or help (yeah, sometimes they still do) because when I was in the hospital afraid and crying not a one of them bothered to see if I was ok. So much for somethings, but on to bigger and better things I say! God bless :)
