A Cool September Morning

It's Friday! Not that it being Friday makes much difference to me (I'm semi-retired and due to my fall on Labor Day, I'm still not able to go back to my part time job) but it means that the Man of My Dreams is off now until Tuesday. Tom is an airplane mechanic, pilot and instructor. He was semi-retired when we met in July 2007, but flying a lot of charters. As our relationship developed, he wanted to spend more time here and with me, so he left that job and is working at an FBO in Hagerstown. It's a little over an hour's drive from here, but it pays well and he really likes the people he works for.Anyway, when Tom is off work, we really enjoy being together. There is always something to be done here at "Smallville" -- my 7 acre farm that we share with 2 horses and 5 cats. I am finally getting caught up on the things which were left undone when my ex ran away with another woman three years ago. This summer, we had the barn roof painted (and the roofs of all the other outbuildings); I am painting all the outbuildings now (Tom will have to do the high places on the barn itself) and this weekend, we are going to do some grading, fill and bring in some stone dust for around the run-in shed to keep the area from turning into a mudhole everytime it rains.Since I hurt my back (and I'm better, but still not great) I lost my momentum on some other outside projects here, but I am doing what I can and trying not to over-do anything because then I pay for it with a lot of pain and stiffness. We still need to get in the rest of my hay for the winter (another 150 bales) and my cousin Gary said he would make himself available on any Saturday that suits us. Having the barn full of hay feels like money in the bank. The last two years, hay went sky high -- I was very lucky to get mine for $5 per bale. This year was a great one for making hay, but the price didn't go back down. Sort of like gas prices...once they go up, they stay up.Anyway, without making up a to do list, I think Tom and I are going to have plenty of projects to keep us busy this weekend. But we always take time to do something special together -- whether it's just sitting out on the patio enjoying theĀ of the birds or watching a movie.I thanked God this morning for seeing me through the absolute worst of times and for putting Tom and me together so that we can love and cherish one another for the rest of our lives.
