A Completed Story

This post is mostly just to commemorate the moment and the creative achievement of having completed my first story in 3 years.

As a writer, I used to be a novelist. Just over 3 years ago, I had completed my third novel before falling into literary silence. Burnout, fatigue, illness, career changes, and then finally a big move across the country all contributed to the stillness of my pen and to massive changes within me as a person.

But, since the move to Georgia, I've been feeling the urge to write again... yet, writing a novel has felt strangely unnatural. So... I decided to let go and let flow...

As it turns out, short stories are more my speed... and by short, I mean "flash fiction" short... 1,000 words or less. Apparently, I've now emerged as a more concise storyteller, and I really like it!

Yesterday, I finished an interesting tale that I'm calling "A Shaman's Journey." It's not quite 200 words total, and while that seems really odd for it to be so whole in such a short word count, that's the reality of its existence.

Since we are currently in a Mercury Retrograde, I'm going to use the next 3 weeks to review and refine the piece before submitting it to a few outlets for publication.

Here's to romancing the muse once again!!!
