A Car Race?

At a recent car race, a lady plopped down next to me and stated ‘is this grass taken?’ I couldn’t contain myself and laughed every time I looked in her direction. She didn’t think it was that funny and told me in no uncertain terms, so I tried to quit laughing as best as I could. Because of her initial statement, I definitely knew she was interested in me. We both ended up laughing together and the barrier between us fell. For the rest of the holiday weekend, we enjoyed our moments together. If she hadn’t been so forward, I would probably not have noticed her amongst all the hubbub of the drivers trying to keep their cars out of harm’s way.
I’m learning friendships and relationships require me to take baby steps. Ultimately, I will keep the one promise I made to her – not being alone. I can still have my memories. I’ve realized that if I stay by myself and don’t let others in, then I’ll probably spend the rest of my life by myself. I sometimes feel myself getting comfortable and know that isn’t good for me.
