A Breakthrough
UPDATE Friday, September 12, 2008 – 2:05 P.M. I just returned from seeing my counselor (Dale) at the mental health clinic. Our session went very well. I took the initiative and told him of the inner struggles I have been dealing with. After we were finished, he said I had made a big breakthrough. He confirmed almost everything everybody told me yesterday. At one time, when I was in my 40’s, my mother said, “Who’s going to be burdened with you when I’m dead?” I told him I considered that a mean and nasty question. He said it was worse than that, and it probably left some of the psychological scars I have been carrying around with me ever since. Dale said my feelings of being a burden explain part of my reluctance to have pool therapy. He also said this came into play when I needed help from the physical therapists to do the physical things that I cannot do for myself. It was also a matter of trusting them. He said that the next time I go in for therapy; I needed to let the therapists know from where I am coming. Dale also suggested that I try getting my doctor to order pool therapy through October in order for me to work on the feelings of being a burden, and try harder to trust the people who help me.

Congrats on the progress.
This is a wonderful, wonderful entry that brings much joy to your friends and all that care deeply for you !
I am so very happy for you.
Toxic people can be so damaging.
We need to take emotional showers and wash their contamination away.
You could use that as a secure thought during pool therapy.
Visualizing the water as being a cleansing agent may help you with reprogramming thoughts and feelings that no longer serve you.
Wash them right out of your head and your heart.
Deep peace, much happiness and lots of ice cream to you.
I can imagine the pool therapy was terrifying. That is why I find you so inspiring, Jim.
That is awful your Mother said that. Mine told me she never should have had me and I just realized how much that has impacted my thinking. Thanks for sharing that. I got a little therapy by living through you!
