A bit of a dilemma
I have a shed that I use for my work and a few weeks ago, I noticed a birds nest on the rafters at a point where several narrow pieces of wood cross. The wood is being stored overhead and has been there a long time.
This particular bird, or another one, had a nest in the exact same location, last year but the eggs got raided. I suspect the culprit was a red squirrel who also had had a nest on the other side of the barn.
While the parents were nesting, we got along just fine. I would wait outside the door and give a holla to let them know I needed to go inside, and she would promptly fly out the door. I would go inside to retrieve my wood and do my cutting and planing or whatever I had to do for my customer and then I would leave, whereupon, mother bird would return to her eggs.
I have noticed no sight of mom for the last few days and I am wondering what happened to her. Today I went inside to do some work and I could hear the sound of peeps so I looked quickly overhead and saw a bunch of little birdies who looked hungry. I asked my friend what I should do and she said nothing. mom knows they are there and she will be back. She's probably looking for food.
Now my question. Will it terribly upset them if I go in there and make some noise for about an hour or so? My friend said don't go in there at all until they have left their nest but I'm thinking....I don't want to go out of business. I did not do any work today but if I don't try to get something done tomorrow, I'll get behind.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this?

If you go in and out on a regular basis they've already heard you??….. Right.... I would continue as usual..... I have so many birds around here and I think they can get quite comfortable with humans around

Bobinmaine...I love birds so this ones hard. Obviously you cant stop working. I'd give the mama bird another day. You may have to take the nest down and get a dropper and feed those baby's! I'd also google what to do too...this has had to happen to others too.
Keep your normal routine. Mother nature has a way of taking care of things. I have a new bird nesting in one of my boxes on the deck-eave trough. After 3 weeks she trusts me to go out & sit in the chair below her. BTW I have a Robin in the other box. She has been a resident for about 3 years & doesn>t give a shit about what I do! Hugs! Brooke
Do your thing, they know you. I do my evening walk by this pond which is very isolated. Few cars and in the three years I’ve been walking have only seen one person. There are many red wing blackbirds but one in particular comes and follows me tree to tree chirping at me while I talk to it. I swear it gets all excited when it sees me coming. They know what to expect.

PS, I am glad you care! A turtle was run over on my road. I got out to see if it was okay. I am sure it was no accident. Sad.
@ SunCloudJD I seem to attract nature, for some reason. Yesterday, I was doing some work on my car but I ran into problems so I gave up, went inside the house and took a break, wondering how I would solve my problem. A few hours later I thought I'd give it one last try. Went out to my car and there were butterflies everywhere. One perch on my jack, another on my car, some on my tools and one perched on my finger tip. It was so cool. Then I went to work and was able to fix the darn thing and get it running again. I was so happy!
@SageLife Yes, I watched some and they were feeding them high potency baby food. If mom doesn't come back, I'll have to intervene.

I don't know that my robin is use to me but she must be since this is her second time here. I am sure she likes the location which is cover from the rain and most predators.
