I just have to write about this.  I have fallen in love, again!  Don't worry, my marriage is safe. lol.  I have fallen in love with my old bike!  I hadn't ridden it for me in about 21 years.  I have ridden slowly around the block with small children on their bikes, but not just for me.  For my training today, I decided to do "cross training" and have been reading that bike riding is good for that.  So I just went for a one hour bike ride and it was wonderful.  When I first started, it seemed hard and I got a bit worried, but I stuck it out and OMG!!  I have come up with the top 5 reasons a real bike is better than a stationary bike.  I know it is usually top ten, but I am a bit lazy, so what!5.  The scenery is more interesting4. If you get really tired, you are too far away from home to just quit, so you just get off and walk it for a bit.  Then get back on.  I had to do this twice on two monster hills.  3. You get to feel real wind on your face and ride through shade.2.  Real hills to climb.  Yes I can set my stationary to pretend it is going up hill, but it doesn't end and I don't get to celebrate when I make it to the top.And the # 1 reason real bikes are better than stationary bikes:After you get to the top of the hill, you get to coast down the other side!!!!!

I\'ll give you reason #6: It awakens the child within. Can\'t think of many memories I enjoy more than that of riding a bike! I\'m hoping that when I get my new knees it will be one of the things I can take up again. I\'m sure it\'s an excellent way to cross-train, too.

I walked 5 and a half miles tonight. It felt good, and tonight I don\'t feel sore at all. I guess that is what cross training is for. As I walked, I saw all the peeps running past me. And I thought to myself, \"I will be one of you soon. If only for a little while. I will be one of you.\" I don\'t know why this is so important. I just feel like this could be my last chance. Maybe it is a mid life crisis thing. lol.

oh YES - I used to love a bike - tried my granddaughters a while ago and couldnt even push off was so scared..lol..........but indeeed, as womanontheverge said, it awakens the child within, like a stationery bike could never - that probably feels like a taskmaster...by the way, what is cross training...oxo
