Summer RequiemLast night I sawthe last fireflyglinting in the grasstrying to riseI don't know if he made it but it matters notfor there would be no mate to answer his callHis companions had long since deserted himand he would die alone and forgottenJust as Summer would soon be abandonedher companions sitting in school roomsGone the long days stretched aheadas though they would go on foreverFishing poles traded in for new pens and pencilsSilent the games of hide and seek and tagGames of Marco Polo and Sharks and Minnows to be played no moreAnd Summer will die alone and forgottenUntilAt the end of May when the first fireflyBursts forth from the earth to declare"Summer Lives!"For she was never deadBut only sleeping.

Did you make that up??? WOW! That is wonderful! and so true. I\'m going to print off your poem and give it to a friend whose sister died a few days ago. The night she died, her family asked God to send angels to her home to carry her to heaven. Her sisters stepped outside to get some fresh air. Lois, my friend, looked up to heaven. Marah, what do you think they saw!?!??!?! Almost 100 fireflies hovering above her sister\'s home. As the sister\'s gazed at the sight, one noticed that there were no other fireflies around...anywhere...just above their sister\'s home. Each sister knew this was God\'s answer to their prayers...angels were waiting to take her home. The sisters went inside Linda\'s home, gathered around her bed, and as she drew her last breath, she opened her eyes, smiled, looked at each family member gathered around, closed her eyes and passed into the arms of those angels who escorted her to heaven. Thank you for writing this...didiy
