Hi everyone, well today is kind of a rough day for me as I woke up this morning huffing & puffing....Had a real hard time breathing,it was scary....But then the insanity clicks in and I'm still smoking..Might as well, can't get help anyway as the carpet by my apt door keeps bunching up everytime I open it...The building manager has been told about it,but nothing done yet to correct the problem.I have a lung infection on top of the problems I already had with having CopdI believe that because of all the damage already done to my lungs that quiting smoking wouldn't really make all that much difference....I'm feeling alittle frustrated to cause I can't have my grandaughter here to visit while the carpet by the door is like this incase of fire or something

Hi Anna that is scary glad you are better. I had an episode last night brought on by acid reflux which woke me and I was gasping for air uncontrolably very scary. Have you ever done that?
They do say you can improve lung function over time. Maybe just try and cut back. I am with you I am a smoker and do understand. So hard for me to tell you something as I head out to smoke. We know but it is hard. Hang in there

I think most of us who smoked when getting the diagnosis felt the same way. I mean really- we already have screwed up our lungs and the disease is progressive so why make ourselves miserable quitting on top of it all?
For me too, if I was smoking I didn\'t \"feel\" like I was really breathing anyway so the SOB episodes sometimes had me smoking more as a panic relief.
But... I think most of us who finally stopped also found out that it did make it easier to breath after all. Especially when we\'re sick with an exacerbation.. man I can\'t even imagine now adding smoke into my screaming lungs during that time. And while it doesn\'t make things all better.. it does slow the progression of the disease for most.
The old saying \"if nagging worked, most folks would stop smoking\" is true.. you just have to decide what works for you though in the long run.
Statistics and medical research says it helps to stop... all I know is I did see positive changes and it\'s helped a bit for me.
HUgs and best to you. Hope they fix the carpet so you can get your visit!
