Good morning my friends,I don't know where to begin regarding the last 2 weeks.  After Joe and I went to see my sister, my brother and I went the following week. She was very out of it and hallucinating. She had no appetite and every time we went to see her (we stayed at a hotel about 5 miles away) it was harder and harder to wake her up.  She did know we were there and every time we left begged us not to go.  My daughters came up that Saturday with their husbands and babies to see her. This was the first time that she saw the babies.  I was glad that my daughters were able to reconnect with her and made their peace.  It was as if there was a black cloud lifted from my shoulders.  When we were there I started to get sick. I had a sore throat and all I had for dinner was soup on Saturday. We did not go back to the hospice on Sunday because I had to come home.  On the trip home I felt increasingly worse and started to get very weak.  Joe met me at my brothers house to take me home.  At this time I could barely sit in the car.  I came home and got into bed.  Labor day I stayed in bed all day and could not eat at all.  I started to throw up Monday nite and continued until I went to the er on Wed morning.  I also had diarrhea for the two days and increasing pain in my abdomen. I would have gone to the er on Tuesday, but the doc said that I was probably having a bad reaction to one of the antibiotics and to give it 24 hours without it.  Wednesday morning I had Joe take me to the er and they decided it was a flare up of diverticulitis. They put me on 4 different IV antibiotics and were hoping to avoid surgery.  The surgeon came in and examined me and told me that they really did not want to operate at this point because with all the infection in my system I would probably end up with a colostomy bag and I would not even consider that.  As luck would have it the belly pain started to ease up.  They had put me on a morphine pump and that was wonderful.  There is nothing worse than being in pain and having to wait for the nurse to give me medicine for it.  This eliminated that completely,  After 4 days they took me off the pump and the iv antibiotics and started giving me pills to see how I would tolerate it. I did well and was sent home on Tuesday. I am very weak and the thought of doing anything is overwhelming.  All I can do is lay around.  I have to see the stomach doc tomorrow.  He wants to do a colonoscopy but not until October when he feels the swelling will be down.  I can't remember feeling this sick since my bowel obstruction last summer.I really missed all of you and will try to read everyones journals as I can but please know that I am thinking of you all and appreciate your caring about me.  This has been a long road and I am still pretty sick, but everyday I feel a little better.I will talk to  you guys soon and hope everyone has a low pain day.Luv ya laurie

Oh my gosh, Laurie, bless your heart! I\'m so sorry about your sister, but I know you\'re relieved that you and the girls got to see her and make peace. That\'s awful about your illness. One of my best friends, Maribeth, had surgery 2 months ago to remove a part of her colon. She had horrible bouts of diverticulitis....same scenario as you, and ended up in the hospital 3 different times, the 4th was for the surgery. They had to put off the colonoscopy for the same reason, surgery, too. When she had the surgery, they did it through her belly button and two other really small incisions...it\'s amazing how much things have progressed. She\'s doing absolutely great now. Keep us posted on how you feel, so sorry you\'re having such a rough time. xxxooo

I\'m so sorry to hear that you\'ve been so terribly sick, Laurie. That\'s just awful. As if a dying sister and chronic pain weren\'t enough...

Please take your time recovering and don\'t push it. Especially don\'t push it on our account! You don\'t have to \"catch up\" or try to respond to each and every hug... just rest and give yourself time to regain your strength, okay? We\'ll wait. xoxoxoxoxoxo, kim

Hi sweetie, I am just catching up on journals, so don\'t think I am ignoring you. Golly you were one sick kid, sorry you had to go through all of that. Just lay still and rest, hopefully everthing else will take care of itself. I am glad everybody reconnected with your sister, I am sure she knows she did wrong, and it was wonderful that you all can forget for awhile. hugs sandy
