Well, here is my first journal entry. I'll try to make it a good one. :)

This is a whole new experience for me. I'm 3 weeks post-op from Roux en Y (Gastric Bypass surgery) and I feel good. I'm down 35-40 pounds depending on which scale I use. I remember laying on the operating table, cold, scared, and wondering, "Is this REALLY what I want to do? Am I really ready to change my life like this?" and the next thing I knew I was in the recovery room. He slipped the sleepy drugs into my IV before I knew it. :) I'm glad I did it though. I know my future will be brighter now. Without this surgery, I'm destined for Diabetes, Heart Disease, and Cancer. Well, maybe still cancer, but although I'm young, I get screened every year.

I've never been a "health nut" by any means. Give me ranch dressing and I'll eat it on just about anything. Well, I USED to. I've discovered sensitivity to milk products since the surgery, so ranch is pretty much out. I miss it, but not so much that I regret anything.

I recently RE-joined Curves and am so far enjoying it. I know eventually I'll need a harder work-out, but going from no activities to a little activity will help. It's only as hard as I make it.

I believe that God will help me through the rough times. He's been helping me resist the "Monday morning meeting doughnuts" and the random trips to Starbuck's. That's another thing I miss. Before surgery, I was a total caffeine/coffee addict. I did the "ibuprofen for breakfast" diet for a week and that prevented the withdrawl headaches from coming on too strong. It helped a lot, so I haven't had caffeine in about a month and a half.

And the money I've saved!! I quit smoking for the surgery. I was up to a pack a day. I save that money and I don't have my Starbuck's for breakfast and I don't have McDonald's for lunch anymore...wow, what a way to save some cash.

Anyway, I hope you've enjoyed my journal entry.

You are 3 weeks out and sound great. I heard that for the first month, you cry and are mad at the world and not happy about the decision that you made. You give me hope. I am really scared about it. I want to do it right now so that I can get it over with and yet...there is that hesitation. But you give me hope.
GOOD for YOU. Boy you have made some BIG changes in your life and you are really going to be happy down the road. You should really be proud or yourself. Remember God made you and knew you before you were born and loved you. So, love yourself, it is the greatest gift you can give yourself and God.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
I have relatives in Grand Forks.
