Thank you to all who have sent me messages of support. Miscarriage seems to be such a taboo topic ... nobody really wants to hear about. I know it makes them uncomfortable and they don't know what to say. So you feel so alone. I am grateful to find people out there who understand where I am coming from.
I still haven't decided what to do. At this point I've decided against the pills. I just have a bad feeling about them. I've had three miscarriages - I know what will happen. These pills just represent an unknown to me. I am also concerned that I have really been left on my own. You know you just hear the devastating news that the baby is dead and they can find no fetal heart beat and then the doctor proceeds to tell me my options. You are still trying to digest what is happening. I was given the pills and told to take them when I went to bed. I was told I would likely wake up about 4 hours later with cramping. The doctor said go to emergency if you start soaking more than 3 pads an hour or if you start feeling light headed or pass out. I was given any pain killers to go with this option. It's Easter weekend... what are my chances of getting any medical attention.
I've started some light spotting but other than being an emotional wreck, I feeling ok.
I'm angry that no doctor seems to be seriously investigating why this keeps happening. Somehow I had the wherewithal to ask my doctor if she wanted the fetal tissue. Her response was...."it won't tell us much. If there is a genenic abnormality, then the body is doing what it is supposed to do. If it's normal it sometimes happens anyway." In other words she doesn't feel it's worthwhile doing any testing on the tissue. It is so frustrating. I really don't want to hand my baby over for this kind of testing but I am desperate for some answers. When I miscarried the third time, it was again over a holiday weekend. I kept the fetal tissue and called my doctor's office as soon as it opened. They told me it probably wasn't a good sample since it was in the refrigerator two days and besides they didn't really have the lab for it. I live in a rural area. With this fourth pregnancy and now miscarriage, I've been seeing a specialist at a reproductive care centre in a city about an hour away.
I'm so frustrated. I know they will not test this tissue since it has already been a week since the baby died. What a horrible nightmare.

what an awful thing to have happen. it sounds like you have some really calloused doctors. Who would give you a pill, and tell you to go home with out anyone to call if things start to get scary. I wish your doctor had just done the d&c when they found out, at least the baby would have been coming from a sterile environment, and could have been tested. And no matter what information you got from the testing, you are 100% entitled to it, and entitled to the peace it may have given you, or the new questions it may have brought up.
I hope that you are able to find a decent RE, even if you have to drive and drive to get there. I don\'t know if serious travel is a consideration, you could find the best of the best, no matter where they are, and start everything over the phone. Then, once the labs the doctor wants are done (you could have them done close to home), then you could make the trip to the doctor\'s office for the consult. You deserve to know what has been happening.
