B.F. Skinner, the father of behavioril psychology, felt it was o.k. to put one of his children in a "Skinner Box".  The shootout.  When I was twelve I was forced to go see my father and he took us children out to his girlfriends house.  At her house we went into the backyard and there was a bucket hanging from a tree.  My father then asked if I thought I could hit the bucket with a 22.  It was maybe 25 yards away and I said yes I could.  He brought out a 22 and took the first shot.  Telling me that the person that missed first was the loser.  To his knowledge I had never shot a gun before, his mistake.  The competition went on for four hours and yes, he finally missed saying that it was to dark for him to shoot.  Through out my life he was to compete with me instead of fathering me.  I didn't know it then but this competition would go on for as long as I knew him.  My coming of manhood.   When I was fourteen my father offered to take me to Europe.  This was always the case with him.  I would be existing on goverment cheese and then he woud offer something extremely unheard of.  My mother not seeing any reason to say no, said yes.  The trip started plesantly enough although I was allowed to order drinks once we got over international waters.  London was great but what came next suprised even me.  We got to Paris and on the first night there he chose to show me Pigalle Circle which was were the hookers hang out.  Then we had dinner and headed back to the hotel.  Upon arriving we went to our room where he gave me 100 bucks and told me to go become a man.  I asked when and he told me "now, I showed you where, dont come back until you get it done" .    So I did as I was told.  Lucky for my I had lost my virinity two years previosly.  I went to Pigalle Circle hired two young french girls and had the best night of my young life.  When I told my friends about this they all said what a great father I had and how lucky I was.  It was years before I realized just how sick this was.  Now the idea of me taking a 14 year old to a strange country and insisting that he go become a man seems really obsurd!!!!!   From then on he competed with me on every vacation.  The bet was always the same.  First person that got a woman alone in the room and naked got a bottle of whatever that country was famous for.  Such as rum in Porta Rico.  This continued from the age of 14 to 16 and then picked up again when I was in my late twenties.  I have heard of men taking their boys at age 18 to a Vegas whorehouse but I think that was vastly different.  Told you he was nuttier!!!!!!!

My dad does the same. Its hurtful, and confusing. My dad took us to europe when I was 14, but only he went to see the hookers. He left my sister and I to fend for ourselves each day.

This post brings back tearful memories.

yeah, I still don\'t understand how he could be a pyschologist. that is really messed up of your dad. Glad you\'ve gotten to the point where you can look back now and realize that!

Your dad certainly does prove that the people who enter the field of psychology or psychiatry, do so because they are so screwed up themselves and are looking for answers. He, (your father) however, clearly never found any:) What a class guy he was! (said sarcastically)
