Eariest memory:  My father bring home a new contraption know as a hifi stereo.  Listening to the 1812 overture in stereo.  No other memory than how could hear each side firing their canons.  Next memory: always tiptoeing around the house as my father was always seeing patients.  My father did not believe in corporal punishment.  He left the punishing to my mother who was real real good at that! lol If he was mad at you then you ceased to exist.  He talked right through you as if you were not there.  This could gone on for two or more weeks.  For the longest time I wished he had belived in hitting!  He never laid a hand on you, in anger or in happiness.  He did not hug me until I forced him to when I was twenty and already married.   Not that he wasn't cruel.  I remember going outside to play catch and at first it was fun but soon he got bored and started throwing the balls harder and harder until in the end all you tried to do was not get hit.  I think I was five or six.  I played little league ball until I was out of grade school, I never remember him coming to any games ever.  None of my family did.  Now that I have coached I have to wonder at how I was perceived back then.  I had the same coach for several years, what must he have thought?  I didn't think it odd because that was all I knew so it was normal to me.

I wonder what it would have been like to have normal, loving, caring parents - sort of boggles the mind - doesn\'t it? So when you were younger he made you disappear if he was angry. That must have created some panic in you as a child - how confusing. Thanks for the installment - :) you\'re a good man. So far mom seems as to be the most crazy - but I\'m sure he\'ll win at being mean?

I can\'t believe your dad was a psychologist and he didn\'t think there was anything wrong with all of this, and especially with how your mom was treating you. I wish you had been cared for well, like the way you deserved to be. Here\'s a big (hug) for you =)

Wow - your parents are something else. I was very angry at mine earlier today but after reading your journal they seem pretty nice. Thanks for sharing.

Yes i also feel very strongly that you should of been treated fairly and with respect, especially as you were growing up as a child when all children need love from not one but both parents. Why he couldn\'t see the damage he was doing not sure????????

your parents were certainly well matched lol it begs the question of whether they spured each other on in a quest to whom could be the cruelest!! its a saving grace that you didnt fall into their vicious ways, you obviously knew from a very tender age that what they were doing was not right!! your heart is good Eric despite your parents and I admire that!! too many people place their own follies on their upbringing and to a degree I accept that however its also an easy excuse to use!! we make choices in life and i feel in the severity of your upbringing it would have been quite easy for you to fall into a similar path as your parents but you didnt you chose love, compassion and kindness and im proud to be your friend ...... nearly forgot cheeky monkey lol xxx
